Hey guys, ive checked out those threads about this but those posts go way back to 04/06. My MSP is in real need of a tune but before that i obviously need an open source to even consider tuning it. Any ideas?

there are plenty of tuning options available from piggy back afcs that intercept and modify signals to the stock ecu, to full stand alone ems and even plug and play unichips. afcs are cheap at only a couple hundred for a used unit and are simple to tune.

there are lots of options and plenty of documentation for all of them.

a good first step is to buy a book called "How to tune and modify engine management systems". This will help you make an educated decision on an EMS and give you an idea of how to tune it. when you have a specific question just post back here.

An open source software such as the Subaru, Mitsubishi and Honda guys have does not exist for the Protege.

I am pretty certain jeffmsp runs a standalone EMS. I use an Split Second AFC for tuning.

this^ no need for them anyways. If you cant afford a AFC (the easiest/cheapest way to tune) then tuning the msp platform isnt for you lol IMO stock internals motor works great with an AFC. Theres no need for anything more really.

If you have built motor running high boost with a transmission built to handle full throttle launches with launch control and slicks then look into a stand alone ems. The cost would be nothing compared to the rest of the build.

The software for either solution is fairly simple to learn also.

Reverse engineering the stock ECU so that you can change fuel/timing just doesnt make sense. Too much time/effort considering there are plenty of off the shelf solutions available. Find a used AFC or EMS for cheap and enjoy!
