Need advice: 09MS3 or 09WRX?

nypz, good to know you ended up with the MS3. Since both the MS3 and WRX have engine problems , you chose the lesser of 2 evils?

I think its safe to say that a lot more WRX's have blown their motors stock than the Speed3's. Most of the MS3's blowing motors are fully bolted.

Ms3

My 2 cents:

I test drove the '09 wrx several times before I chose the ms3.

The wrx definitely had a smoother more comfortable drive vs the ms3.
However, the ms3 seemed so much more fun to drive, seemed more powerful and had virtually zero turbo lag. The ms3 also handled much better.

Also, stock vs stock, the ms3 will eat the wrx on the highway! and it's less expensive.

WEll you're on a mazda forum, so definitely the WRX. My roommate drives a wrx, and all the little subaru drivers give each other a little honk as a sign of "nice car!". It's a cool little club

I tried to do that to a guy driving a ms3, and the ******* guido just looked at me like wtf. WTF mazda drivers.

Haha - I was in the WRX for six years and not everyone waved. But I would say about 70% did. I haven't seen enough MS3s around where I drive. One did wave at me a year ago.

No kidding, I had my MS3 for 8 months and didn't see another one until the other day.

VW and reliability

yeah the 200 hp engine that becomes 230+ with the revo flash and close to 280 with turboback...

oooh and the best part is they don't zoom zoom boom!!

i am just saying to the OP that you should look at all of the cars in that class...

the gti's are putting down good numbers and turning out to have more robust engines that dont blow the **** up at random weird times.

According to Consumer Reports, VW's are not very reliable, especially compared with Japanese cars.

Aren't 09 WRX's getting spun bearings in their engines left and right?

Only 2 months of build dates bud. It sucks that its happening and might give it a bad rep in the long run. But everybody else in the 09/08+ production are fine.

if your gonna mod it i would go with the MS3. my bro just bought an 09 wrx. preformance parts for that car are quite a bit more then the same part for the MS3.

on top of that it takes FOREVER for the turbo on the wrx to spool up.

Takes so much time to spool that the car does 0-60 in 4.7sec come on lol. But yes there is more lag than the Speed3. Definately. But lets not exagerate.

No doubt on that. But you will get badly ***** from a dig, as you probably already know this from experience. To each its own.

i had the same dilemma about a month ago, i chose the MS3 for a couple reasons:

1. price (i didn't feel the difference in price was warranted)
2. interior of the ms3 is nicer.
3. i'm not sure about the wrx's looks.
4. It's annoying to know there's an STI out there that's the same car just faster.

Its not faster lol. But dont tell the 08 and 09 STI guys. They dont like to hear that. We have the same turbo as the STI, but different housing. The 5speed tranny is what makes us be faster from 0-60 and pretty much equal on the 1/4 mile(only .1 slower). I lost so much on the MS3 when I traded it in that I couldnt afforf the STI. The new house didnt help the situation either. If I would have gotten the STI, it would have been the top model with the light weight wheels and the rest of the fancy s***, which is another 5-6K over the regular STI model, here in Canada.

I've already reviewed both cars on here (I think). Do a search in my posts cause I dont feel like stating all the pros/cons of each car again. Both great cars for the money. I owned the MS3 for 14months and so far the 09WRX for 9 months. I cannot say how happy I am with my new car. Many reasons make it the better choice, for my situation and life. And on top of that, it can get fast REALLY easy. I'm stage II and simply love it. I should be at or very very close to 350bhp.Combined with one of the best AWD system in the world, the car is awesome.

If I had it to do over again I would have gone with a Subie or an Evo. The MS3 is a great car, but it doesnt have AWD, which is its downfall. It's so much easier to make a subie fast, and not worry about it blowing up either.
