Okay people, so I am pissed. I FINALLY got my car back yesterday (YIPPEE). Went out this morning to go to work and I have a sizeable crack in my windshield. Has anyone in NoVA had to replace there windshield yet? I am looking for a good glass shop to get it replaced. (rant)

878,

I would go back to the dealer and state the TSB for the cracked winshield. If you weren't driving and it cracked from the cold and stress, that's a warranty thing! :D

warranty work for me also..
I went to Rosenthal in Ballston and after a bit of hessitation from them and a lot of "girl charm" they 'took care of it for me'..
It took them awhile to get it in since they had to order it but only took a day to put it in.. the cost, FREE. :)

it's going back to the shop....again! This is crazy:eek: More downtime for the MSP :(

the extreme optimist in me says, at least you won't have to pay for the windshield.. but I know it sucks being without the mazda.. mine is gonna be away for a weekend coming up soon to get the dent pulled back out.. :(

Mazda will only replace it if the crack appears from the leading edges. If it is a crack in the middle then they won't, or well atleast give you lots of trouble for it.

What if you dont have a crack...just a chip in the windshield
I noticed that i had a nice chip in my windshield last week when i was cleanin her.
Bah!
Just dont want it to turn into a crack.

Chip won't be covered under warrenty, only stress cracks from the leading edges.

Thanks RE - The crack does lead in from the edge. I will take it back AGAIN.

The bad thing though is that don't they replace it with the same type of glass???
I decided to avoid the hassle and pay for mine to be replaced. Now and again I wonder if I should have done it the other way....but you know at least now I know what is in there will hold up better!

what do you mean they don't use the same type of glass? They used a factory Mazda one on mine..

Aftermarket glass is not the same as factory. The factory glass is known to be kinda weak In fact the guys that replaced my glass couldn't believe what they used!

Ya eh?
I know the side windows glass is different on the MSP vs Protege. Not sure if the front is different or not. But they should just replace it with the factory. Those that have had it done have had no problems with it. It was just the factory glass was put under to much stress, guess they changed the design of the glass afterwards.

Funny though cause I haven't had a problem and I get slammed with rocks everyday. In fact have a chip right now, but it isn't growing. :D

There was some guy on here...can't remember user name that stated he had gone through two windshields on the MSP. The aftermarket windshield shop I went to, stated that the glass was "cheap". The windshield I have now IMHO is so much better. I don't discount sticking it to Mazda at all!!! I was just stating what I had done!
I personally didn't feel like fighting with Mazda over it. Plus I am not 100% sure that it wasn't a rock.

Yeah Mazda OEM windshields are not the greatest. I had 4 windsheids replaced when I had my RX7. The 4th one was an aftermarket windshield and held up much better.

After getting my first cracked windshield replaced, I have yet ANOTHER crack in the windshield. In the EXACT same place as the last one. Dealer is still deciding whether or not he is going to replace this one under warranty. Saying, "you are the only one having problems with this". bulls***. I told him that I had a forum full of people that have had the same problem. He basically told me he was doing me a "favor" the first time... I also asked if there was a stronger/thicker glass they could use to prevent this in the future, and I was told no.

Has anyone priced the windshield yet on their own? I don't think the dealership is going to hook me up twice...

From my understanding and correct me if I am wrong! If the crack is less than an inch long, they (windsheild repair co) can fix it without replacing the entire windshield.

i had my windshield crack 3 times on my MP3 .. twice covered by warranty. now I have 2 cracks AGAIN in my 3rd windshield, all leading from the edge.. .but there is a rock impact in one of them on the edge... i remember when it happened, as soon as the rock hit ( small small SMALL rock ) it made a 10 inch crack instantly ( thats not normal )... but i doubt Mazda will change it this time since you see the impact.

Still no ticket from cops tough :).. been 6 months now. One of the 2 cracks now covers 60% of my windshield thank you cold weather.

When i get it fix no way is Mazda doing it. Damn retards.
