need a CAT.....which one is better?

:
03 MSP > 03.5 MSP > 05 Evo8 GSR > 10 EvoX MR-t > 96 MX-5
and no, not the one that meaws :D

i'm running catless, and it leaves me feeling kinda guilty every time i stop on a red light and can smell my own exhaust.
sooooo, i've been thinking of trowing in a Hi Flow catalytic converter.

any of u guys know a good manufacturer for hi flow cats?
i've found Catco cats on ebay for like $30
then found Eastern Hi Flow cats for $40
also found DynoMax Hi Flow cats for arround $100
and then there are Extreme Flow cats for $120

also sould i go with ceramic or metallic?
people say metallic cats are better for richer A/F ratio conditions.

size i'm looking for is 2.5" inlet and outlet.

please give me suggestions, or if u know of any other brand of cats that are decent price let me know.

thanks guys (gals ;) )

yeah catco, carsound (ie magnaflow) will be fine. just make sure the cat you get is recommended for a engine greater than 4L - if you look at the magnaflow website you'll understand what i mean

yeah, magnaflow makes California CARB approved cats.......dont know the price though.

also i dont think they are hi-flow

I'm looking for a 2.5" cat too. Just spent some time on car sound's site. They only mention ceramic honeycomb, so I think that's what is used in all of their cats. Has anyone else heard that metallic is better? (and why)

Looks like the 53000 series is the right one (3-way)....do you agree? Since I'm adding this to a 2.4" midpipe, I think I'll need transition sections on both ends.

are u taliking about the magnaflow 53000 series?
are they hi-flow cats or regular?

Yep, I'm looking at Magnaflow 53006, which is a 2.5" 3-way that covers up to 4.2L engine/4250 lbs. I think the "hi-flow" description refers to how much engine displacment that can be accommodated....so since this one is up to 4.2L, it should work well for a 2.0L turbo.

hmmm.....
i dont know, it all depends on the inner diameter and the mesh inside......
i still would think that hi-flow cat is less restrictive than the 53006...

anyone has any input on this?

All I meant was that if you're choosing a cat that can handle much more flow than the original, it is in effect, hi-flow. I'm sure there's also variation in performance for a given size, but I'd expect Magnaflow to be biased towards performance. For what it's worth, Magnaflow's website states "The converters feature a high-flow honeycomb catalyst..."

hey loudpdl,
i wasn doubting you, i appreciate your input very much.......as well as others that have responded to this thread :)

by the way, how much is 53000 cat? where did u get the prices.

huh? ^ cold air?

cat = catalytic converter....catalyst....kind of a filter to burn off access fuel.
