Hope to get some help here. My daughter will be attending college at UNCW next year and I would like to tint her windows but I don't know how dark I can go legally. Anyone know what is legal and whats not. Better yet, does anyone know if they even care? How is the law enforcement down there? Thanks for any help in this matter

35% is legal, we have state inspections and they check with digital meter to pass test so I would just be safe and do 35%. Now if she were in a suv then it is 35 on the front windows and as dark as you like on the rest.

Hey waldo 2001,

Thanks for the info, 35% is what I was thinking of. Not to dark but enough to give her interior some extra protection for the sun. Now tell me more about your state inspections, will she have to get inspected because the car will still have Ohio plates on it?

all windows can be tinted 35% except for the windshield after you go that dark on all the others it does look pretty dark. I have been pulled and test by cops and when I go to inspection shops they have to check all 4 windows because they do not belive me . I am near Raleigh NC.

I know this thread is old and dead (sorry), but how strict are they? I moved to Raleigh in March 07 and my hearse has 95% all around except windshield (obviously) and even though I've been pulled over, I've NEVER had a problem. The car IS registered in KY though, could it be for cars registered in NC only?

Yes, if you have other plates, cops can't give you a ticket. They pull you over and talk s***. I got pulled over twice when I had 22% on my p5, but I had my Florida plates at the time.

NC is 32% technically, odd they actually state it this way when no one else does. i guess allows for 35% tint to read as 32%.

i had texas plates on mine, as long as you insurance and your registration is good, they really can't do nothing.
