After reading around a bit I am confused about one point. If I buy a 2016.5 CX-5 With tech package, will I have to pay for a sd card to use the GPS? Also, how is the GPS?

SD card is included Touring and above for 16.5
Navigation at this point has no live traffic. An issue for most cities.

Navigation itself - the GUI etc. is pretty nice.
It shows traffic cameras.
There is a traffic map - not very useful as an App.

For actual navigation purposes, google maps and waze is much better. But I do enjoy the speed limit display, red light camera notifications, 3D aspect of the maps.

I've been using the Navi more lately. It's very good. I like to use it instead of my phone so I don't have to keep my phone plugged in.

You get 3 free updates to the map database too. I think it works just fine and the display is very nice.

I'm a big fan of the CX-5 and am 90% convinced I will be getting a top trim Diesel in the next year. That said, I think the Navigation map looks awful. It is extremely Spartan. Vastly better than nothing, but not as good as my 2000 Acura's Alpine unit, which is not as good as a $100 phone with Google Maps.

2016.5 Touring and Grand Touring get the Navi is included, you don't need the Tech. package to get it.

From what I've read, the CX-5 Navi. tells you how to get there, just not when you'll arrive as it can't get live traffic updates.

I have it in my touring and I think it works pretty well. I don't mind that it doesn't have live traffic.

I just bought my 16.5 a couple weeks ago and I was a little confused as well because I was playing with the info center and it said GPS not installed contact dealer. Turns out the SD card is inside the dealership until you buy it so it is not stolen on a test drive.

This is correct.
