MZR being upgraded to 2.5L for 2009

I looked around but didn't see this posted anywhere. While this is hardly a "major redesign" like they say in this article (I can't find any significant differences besides the dual exhaust), they do mention that there will be a displacement bump to 2.5 liters.

that new 2.5 will also be a base engine in the next mazda6. 175-180 horsepower will be a nice jump. honestly mazda needed that bump to keep it in line with other cars. with that being said, lets go ahead and start the speculation of the next generation mazdaspeed3 with the 2.5 DISI turbo. i am going to guesstimate 305hp and 320 lbs. ft. all going to an all wheel drive set up with 4 wheel steering. i have a great imagination!

Generally more displacemet means more weight but we`ll see.I still prefer a CPE Garret GT28 Trubo Kit.I`m not waiting another 3 years for another Spped3 Kit to be developed.

I hope the engine will not weigh much more as I bet it will be the same basic engine just border out more.

Regardless I fear the whole car will gain the typical 100 kg per generation that seems to be the norm.

haha yeah i know its a crazy thought. the new g37 has all wheel steering i think. but yeah this is just a mule. remember the first pics of the next mazda6. it was under the same sheet metal as the current model. i would expect looks to mimic the next mazda6, only smaller of course. mazda is actually reaching out to facebook members through a design contest for the next mazda3.

It's actually for the generation after the next Mazda3, (model year 2018).

I also read that the new Mazda6 concept we've seen is NOT what we'll get in the states. That's apparently the new euro-6/Mondeo, and we'll get a 6 based on the Fusion platform...not sure if they'll look the same, but either way its lame. Can you imagine if the new 3 shared components with the US-spec Focus? (yupnope)

the current 6 and fusion share the same platform.... i see no problem with it honestly. also unless i missed it somewhere i believe they are still going to be using the same world platform that the prev 6 was its only getting tweaked here and there under the new skin. that same platform is also under the ford edge and cx7/cx9...
