mz3 vs msp

Comon man, I've driven both too. I'll admit the Mazdaspeed is SLIGHTLY (and I do mean SLIGHTLY) quicker than a 3s, but how could you say the MSP handles better. I love the MSP, but I would never get one over a 3. The 3 has much nicer styling, the interior is much nicer, and as far as exclusivity goes, well you can make your car as exclusive as you want depending on what you do to it. I don't know, it's a matter of opinion, but I don't think the MSP handles better than a 3s at all. Just my 2cents. (boom07)Newf said:

i cant say anything about the handling b/c i havent really got to take either on any serious twisties but a friend of mine has a basicly stock MSP with custom full exhaust, injen CAI and turboxs BOV i have a 3s with custom exhaust and we have ran quite a few times and its a very close race he has took me every time i can get him off the line and we have also had some dead even runs when he pulls on me its usually in 2nd gear about a half a car length and he never pulls on me any more till he hits 5th and in in 4th mine is a sportAT he gives my car props all the time the MSP is one bad ass car but the 3 in my opinion has a ton of potential also
not to get into a pissing contest here, but I'm sorry, the MSP is quicker. Even more so on the highway. I was driving a 3 and always wanting to get more power...where's it too?
They are much better then a P5, and ES, but the turbo in the MSP makes it soo much better.
As for handling, I've owned a MP3, and now a Speed. I am well aware of what it can and can't do. When I drove the 3, no comparison, it just didn't take the corners like the msp, and the confidence isn't there.
Just my opinion man. I could have jumped into a Mazda 3 for next to nothing if i wanted to, but i'm keeping my MSP for now.....until a Mazdaspeed 3 at least.
I will say this. The Mazda 3 has such a direct, precise, and sharp handling for a stock car it's crazy. Nothing in it's class, or anywhere near it's price range compares imho. Not counting the MSP of course

I have driven both cars very extensively. With equal drivers the Mazdaspeed would beat the Mazda3 by about 2 car lengths in the quarter mile, but I also think it would keep edging away as the speeds got higher and of course the 3 has fuel shut off at 118. The handling in the 3 is amazing for what it is and ride comfort is incredible for the way it handles (rides like a Corolla and handles like a protege), BUT the handling edge definately goes to the Mazdaspeed. The Speed out handles cars double the price. Anyone who disagrees with this hasn't driven a Speed at the limit. No matter how hard you throw one into a corner there is NO body roll.
As for modding it depends how far you want to go. The Speed is a lot easier and cheaper to make a little faster. They run low 14's easily with a few cheap mods and a good driver. However if you want to go totally crazy and spend lots of money the 3 probably has more total potential.
Which one should you pick? Depends what your preferences are. If you want some luxury and comfort with your ZoomZoom the 3 wins hands down. If you want something that kicks ass in parking lot racing right out of the box than the Speed is the car.

Hrmmm....I was in your position before the 3's came out. I chose the MSP. It was a total package for me. As far as potential each has their own potential but the 3 is NA vs the MSP FI. I do miss having a NA engine because it was 1 less thing I had to worry about. Other than that. I am happy with my car and will be keeping it as long as I can. Also, I have test driven a 3 and there is no doubt, even before the speed, that I love those cars. I want my mom to get one.
All in all....give a couple of test drives for each one and see which suites you for your needs. Good luck!

I said this in another thread, but I can't wait to see some mod'd 3's. Even some of the 1st body kits are sick as hell. And to think they handle like they do now.....wait until a drop, struts, bars etc get thrown on it.

Ok. Newf, you can stop. That's what got me in trouble with the msp (hand) . Stock, I think the 3 looks o so good. Now, thinking about the 2.3l potential and the idea of a ms3...im tasting shibby's im not even suppose to have (cheers)Newf said:hmmmm, both

tight i lon\ve the turbokit from hiboost for the p5 it looks like when thats on it will haul. Its 3900 but it comes with everything what do you guys think the prices will be on the ones for the three im guessing similar price i dunno though thoughts? By the way i love this forum
