My Parents just got a new Mazda5!

(ohsnap!) My Parents decided to take advantage of the cash for clunkers program and replace their aging but beloved spare car (an '89 Jaguar) with a brand spanking new silver Mazda5! (rockon)

First they were thinking about checking out what Honda and Toyota had to offer but I highly recommended they also checkout Mazda (GOT TO REPRESENT!)...When they came to visit me in Japan last time, we rented a Mazda Premacy (Mazda5) and they loved it!

After doing their own research, they decided to skip Honda and Toyota and go straight to the local Mazda Dealer.

Thanks to the cash for clunkers program and dealer discounts, they got a brand new Mazda5 for I believe $16000 flat (will verify once I see the price sheet)

I really dig the Mazda5 and I'm very happy to have one in the family now...Pics on the way! (woowoo)

That is cool, for what is worth my dad also loves the Mazda5, except when sitting in the 3rd row for more than 10 minutes (he is surprised we still got Manual Tranny in both). I doubt he can justify one now though...

Thanks man...but...The "Rondo"?...At first I thought you made that name up as it sounds like a nickname a college kid would give his wannabe "pimpmobile"...lol...One google search later and I'm horrified to know that it's a Kia, butt ugly and MORE EXPENSIVE! (wtf)...Mazda or not, in that class...There is no other vehicle that I like better than the 5! (2thumbs)

The 5 will primarily be my Popz ride although he still has his Astro Van which he digs (he'll probably donate it or give it away as it's worth very little now )...It has been good to him with around 200,000 miles and no major problems but it's getting old and Popz could use a newer more efficient ride these days.

If I had a 5 here in Japan...It would probably look something like this eventually with AutoExe gofast & suspension goodies in addition to a nice set of rims...The cool thing is my local Mazda Dealer here in Japan offers and install most aftermarket parts for Mazdas...(woowoo)

I don't believe that the Rondo qualifies for the Cash for Clunkers program, it's combined mileage is 21 mpg (the Mazda5 has a combined mileage of 24 mpg). To qualify it needs an average mileage of 22 mpg.

I'm assuming that the Rondo is considered a passenger car and not a light duty truck.

I'm not really into this Mazda5 vs Rondo debate. I think both are very good. But I'd be curious to see how Mazda5 sales compare to Rondo in August with one qualifying for the "clunkers" program and one that doesn't.

Seriously...I had no idea the Rondo even existed before it was mentioned in this thread...Everytime I look at the 5 I like it even more...It's just a really slick lookin' family hauler IMO...(thumb)

^ dig the Tats... something to consider, if the back window was only a bit bigger. Your folks should be getting a free zoom zoom sticker and touch up paint in the mail

My folks went to a dealer fully ready to buy 1, but Mazda fail.... none in stock and crappy salesman couldn't get a clue. So they wound up with a Saturn Vue... not a horrible choice, but still think the 5 made more sense.
