one of the valves is chipped.. and the headgasket was toast... soo gonna reseal the valves, and replace them.. and get it resurfaced..
So with the extra time.. i think im gonna pull this ole thing out and do one of them fancy wire tucks..and clean up the bay severly, i woudl love to get it sparkly white to match the exterior..not sure yet. After hittin the tranny for awhile with the wire brush.. its was blingin, and im set on going further.
Did more work, today, mapped out where im gonna run the harness.. pulled the motor out. The driver side was a breeze, pulled the harness off the firewall, run it under the IM, and under the tranny mount, and into thespace behind the fender, and mount the fuse box there.
Ive been pulling parts off, cleaning, and draining...block seems to be great shape. Going to hone the block, and check out the bearings/rings.. shouldnt be too bad.. but might be!!
sorry for the bad quality pics..
Cleaned up the tranny/oil pan..did a minimal job on the tranny.. it has some more shine left in it.. oil pan dont really matter much.. but i couldnt help but to hit it with something.
Power washed the bay again, removed the fire retard stuff.. but its too cold to scrub. So ill save it for when it gets warmer. But i tucked the headlight wiring. The Driver side pocket is where the main fuse box will be, and the harness will run thru the hole. its hard to setup without the motor in.. but it will be hidden completly.
Only things left to work out is the vaccum hoses on the firewall, for the VICS solenoid, ill probrably mount it lower behind the intake manifold...and get a longer vaccum hose. And im trying to find a smaller charcoal canister or just relocate it elsewhere. .. than i can start trying to get this bay painted...
Did some work in the bay, cleaning, and rearranging wires, and making sure that they reach where they need to. Cleaned it as much as its can be cleaned. Gonna get start chopping some of these studs off next!
Looking good dude. You can lose the charcoal canister. I've removed it on both of the miatas. I plugged the vent line on turbo Miata and left it floating on the CSP car.

Pistons out.. i think im as far as im gonna go with the motor.. everything seems great on the bottom end. The rod bearings have some wear, but nothing crazy.. one is alittle bruised.. but not too bad.
when I remove the charcoal cannister will that affect my emissions? I don't want to have to register this car in alabama like my previous lx...lol. I read up in the manual and read the layout of the emissions. before ithought that solenoid that was connected to the charcoal, was for the vics in the IM but I found out otherwise....
sanding and getting ready for paint is alot cheaper than getting the parts i need..to put the motor back together...but i sure woudl like to drive it...so i feel u!
