Well, I picked up my new 2006 Honda Civic Si today. Now before you flamers go on a rampage about how I now own a "rice rocket" or something, forget it. This car is an ABSOLUTE DREAM to drive. Between the 197-hp, 8000 rpm redline engine, and the factory LSD, you can't beat this car for the money. I paid MSRP for it ($19,990 + destination charge of $550 = $20,540).
After some spirited driving, I can honestly say, this baby handles right on par with my MP3! I never thought I'd say it, but its true! The LSD REALLY helps when rounding corners while accelerating. You can barely feel it working but you know it is when the car carves through the twisties with ease and agility.
The shifter is perfect as well, tight but it allows each gear to be selected with minimal movement. Not to mentions its a friggin' 6-speed (a short geared one at that!)
The exhaust note is to die for as well. You can really tell they put a lot of thought into making this car sound as agressive and mean as possible, without making it sound "ricey". It has a nice deep growl all the way up to the VTEC change-over point (6100 rpm) at which point this thing turns into a snarling animal and flies towards the redline, screaming like a banshee. I'm still trying to break her in, but I have explored the upper RPM band one or twice! I couldn't help it! If anyone wants, I can try to record the exhaust note and post it.
The 2-tier dash is different, but you get used to it. Its actually quite helpful, as your eyes don't have to leave the road to check your speed, almost as nice as the HUD on the newer Corvettes.
The stereo is great too, but not quite on par with the MP3 stock stereo, as its still a factory deck and doesn't allow for much sound adjustment. But it still sounds excellent. I am still debating on whether to swap out my dash for that of a Civic DX so I can add a under-radio pocket and an aftermarket HU and amp. We'll see, I'm liking it stock for now...
The only "problem I can find on it so far is that because of the drive-by-wire throttle, when the gas is lifted and the clutch depressed, the revs "hang" for a 1/4 second or so. Why? I have no idea, but its a minor bug in an already exquisite vehicle.
I added more pics on another post in this thread...
