My New Car

Well, I picked up my new 2006 Honda Civic Si today. Now before you flamers go on a rampage about how I now own a "rice rocket" or something, forget it. This car is an ABSOLUTE DREAM to drive. Between the 197-hp, 8000 rpm redline engine, and the factory LSD, you can't beat this car for the money. I paid MSRP for it ($19,990 + destination charge of $550 = $20,540).

After some spirited driving, I can honestly say, this baby handles right on par with my MP3! I never thought I'd say it, but its true! The LSD REALLY helps when rounding corners while accelerating. You can barely feel it working but you know it is when the car carves through the twisties with ease and agility.

The shifter is perfect as well, tight but it allows each gear to be selected with minimal movement. Not to mentions its a friggin' 6-speed (a short geared one at that!)

The exhaust note is to die for as well. You can really tell they put a lot of thought into making this car sound as agressive and mean as possible, without making it sound "ricey". It has a nice deep growl all the way up to the VTEC change-over point (6100 rpm) at which point this thing turns into a snarling animal and flies towards the redline, screaming like a banshee. I'm still trying to break her in, but I have explored the upper RPM band one or twice! I couldn't help it! If anyone wants, I can try to record the exhaust note and post it.

The 2-tier dash is different, but you get used to it. Its actually quite helpful, as your eyes don't have to leave the road to check your speed, almost as nice as the HUD on the newer Corvettes.

The stereo is great too, but not quite on par with the MP3 stock stereo, as its still a factory deck and doesn't allow for much sound adjustment. But it still sounds excellent. I am still debating on whether to swap out my dash for that of a Civic DX so I can add a under-radio pocket and an aftermarket HU and amp. We'll see, I'm liking it stock for now...

The only "problem I can find on it so far is that because of the drive-by-wire throttle, when the gas is lifted and the clutch depressed, the revs "hang" for a 1/4 second or so. Why? I have no idea, but its a minor bug in an already exquisite vehicle.

Nice. I saw a maroon looking one the other day.. They have one for 28k at the local dealership. I think they installed every factory accessory option available at the dealership to raise the price. So far I dont think anyone has bought that one yet.

Edit: the color I saw was called Habanero Red Pearl and its a dark red color

Double Edit: I knew that dealership sounded familiar, I have seen it on many of my trips to Columbus..

I know what you mean......my wifes '05 Tiburon does the same thing, it drives me nuts.

Congrats on the new purchase (thumb)

Its kinda easy to get around, but still bugs me. When I am driving slowly, it makes the ride kinda jerky, as the revs drop quickly, from the hanging point, down to the new gear's RPM rapidly. But you can get around it by either slowly releasing the clutch or just shifting slower. It doesn't effect when you are floorin' it though, still smooth as butter!! I hope your wife's is the same way too (easy to adjust to)

great choice! I test drove one of these puppies yesterday for s**** and giggles and i was very impressed! The styling is really growing on me too. The stuff they had at SEMA was hot. The only thing is i know i'd have to get nav on it if i pulled the trigger on one!

yeah im finaly starting to see the SI on the road....the 05 RSX-S is a great match for the rx8, so this should be as well!

Did you know the new civic has THE MOST ANGLED FRONT WINDSHEILD OF ANY HONDA EVER MADE....even the NSX

that K20A3 is supposedly boost hungry from what i hear

Yeah, the A3 is, but that's from 02 to 05, like the type me and Replica drive. :) The K20z3 is what's in the new 06's and it's the same basic engine as the RSX Type-S but with a balanced crankshaft and drive-by-wire throttle. Just in case, though, Check the TSB's on the DBW system, cuz the original shipment had a problem with it sticking open...

BTW: Welcome to the Mazda-to-Honda family and check out www.fgcoupe.com and www.ephatch.com for just as much info as this place has WITHOUT all the ricers that honda-tech and club-si have...

Please read the definition of an LSD...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential
...and then tell me how you could possibly feel it carving corners for you on dry pavement. Unless you were spinning the wheels (such as driving on gravel or snow, launching from a stand-still, or taking sharp corners at full speed on an autox course) the LSD will show no affect on daily driving.

You obviously drive on flat land... try taking a corner uphill with anything but high-performance tires...

you will feel the difference even daily driving

Or perhaps I drive conservatively and in control...if you're spinning tires with every day driving...you are most likely endangering others on the road.

don't be so quick to judge. that's how worthless arguments start.

I'm not gonna start an arguement on someone else's thread, so i'll just leave you with this. I DO drive conservatively, but you have to adjust your driving style CONSTANTLY on Louisiana roads. If you don't adjust, you endanger others. If you don't believe me, ask around.

And going from a stoplight to a 90 degree right turn uphill entering a bridge here in shreveport, if you don't move with a sense of urgency, you WILL roll backwards and/or slip off the road/into a curb. Having an LSD lets you get enough traction to where you don't spin and hop your way up the bridge entrance...

HEY!! GUESS WHAT? If you are gonna be an ass, just don't come into my thread. I made this thread so that other Sport Compact enthusiasts could get a glimpse of what else is out there. Its just a friendly review from my standpoint. Why do you insist on challenging me when you don't even know what its like where I live.

Oh and BTW, I live near the outskirts of Dayton, where there REALLY are country roads and desolate places to test my car out. You my friend have apparently never driven a twisty, hilly road in Ohio and until you do, you have no place to talk.

Its people like you that start s*** on these boards.

**** OFF.
