My new car

Ok, so I recently got a silver 2002 Mazda Protege ES. It's stock as of now (although my TWM short shifter is coming tomorrow), but I'd like to get some performace mods for it. I'm only 17 with a part-time job so I'm not planning on spending a lot of money.

Mods in mind:

-Short-shifter (done)
-Cold air intake (K&N or Injen)
-Custom exhaust with high-flow cat (Aeroturbine muffler, 2.5"-3" pipes)
-Header (OBX)
-Flywheel (Findanza)
-Clutch (ACT)
-Rotors (Brembo)
-1"-2" drop (Eibach, Tein, B&G...)
-GM rims (Something cheap - ADR)
-CF spoiler (Carbon Creations Sniper)

Now I have a few newbie questions on a few of these mods. Will the Injen CAI
fit an ES? And as far as lowering it goes... I would like better handling out of my car, but I want something that's still practical - I don't want to be scraping pavement everywhere. I would LOVE to have turbo, but I'm definitely not going to have 4k spending money anytime soon (especially not with college looming in the near future). Any suggestions?

Sly.

welcome to the forums.

you dont want to spend a lot of money? HA, thats what they all say. ;)

the injen intake is good, but the K&N typhoon is much, much better. for springs - eibach sportlines will be good. they will give you much better peformance and looks over stock while maintaining a pratical height because they only lower the car ~1.2"

the search button is your friend

... and the delete button's yours :-P

Welcome! The Injen will fit the car as long as it's the 1.8l or 2.0l engine. Same goes for the OBX header.

Yes, I've done some searching. Just specific questions weren't answered. About the sportlines... don't you mean the pro-kit? If so, I'm confused on why everything I've read (including Eibach.com) says it gives a 1.4" drop in the front and 1.8" in the back. Wouldn't that look retarted?

Sly.

oops, yeah. wtf was i thinking? the pro-kit is what you want, the sportlines are like a 2" drop. no, it wont look retarded because stock the rear is a little higher. the extra .4" evens it out

Anything larger than a 2.25" exhaust is pretty much a waste on a normally aspirated FS-DE. Intake is always a good place to start, and the SS and springs will round it out well. I'd think about saving for FI instead of getting the rest of the stuff, because thats the only way you can really get cheap power out of these cars. NA tuning is very expensive on proteges.

I would say also to go with the 2.25 exhaust piping. And if your looking to mod the car, save up for FI. I mean im N/A right now but I have spent a good amount of money and still want more power out of the car.I have about 90% of the stuff I need to switch to the dark side, because bolts ons only brought me to a certain point. And I want more Power.

I have an Silver 2001 ES, mines auto, but thats what i get for buying a Protege in San Franscisco when i was stationed out there. NO MANUALS. Oh well here are my mods

1. MSP Strut Bar (silver , matches the exterior)
2. MSP/MP3 Eibach Springs (bought them used of ebay for $50 Shipped, looked brandnew when i bought them. Tucked the back wheels good. had to shave a coil off the front to make it sit evenly. Awsome drive, my car was stiff to begin with so i didnt loose any handling, actually gained some)
3. Mazdaspeed Axle Back Sport Exhaust (really nice tone, kinda droans at 70mph, but its got an awsome tone to it, another option is the MSP Protege Racing Beat Exhaust or the MP3 Racingbeat, Both sound good, not as loud as the MSP SPORT BACK, but are an awsome mod)
4. Kenwood Excelon MP3 Headunit
5. Kenwood Excelon Speakers all around
6. Sirius Starmate Satellite Radio
7. Kenwood Excelon Amp
8. JL 10w3V2 Sub in a Powerwedge Box (hits awsome, woudlnt settle for anything less then JL)
9. Toyo Proxies4 Tires, Great traction great in rain and dry pavement. LOVE EM!

car has a really nice stance to it. Very clean installs and mods. I only do OEM parts from the MSP. www.mazdastuff.com has all those parts i have above, BRAND NEW, Free Shipping on some orders, And No tax, unless your in TX.

My next mods are

Window Tint
OEM Alarm From Mazdasutff.com
CF Hood with Ramair intake and CF Eyelids

Just my info
