My MS3 farted this morning.

I pulled out onto a busy street, got on the gas, ran through a couple of gears, and the best description I can come up with is that the car made a farting noise. Not the long drawn out kind but one of those sharp ones that are almost a barking sound. I think I heard the same sound yesterday but I`m not sure. The car didn`t stumble or anything and ran fine for the next couple of miles to work, but I can`t help wondering what the hell could cause that? I filled up yesterday afternoon on the way home, if gasoline quality could cause it.

what kind of fart, there are lots of different ones lol

if it was a pop coulda been a backfire, do you have a dh or ap? maybe it was knock....

are you sure it didnt just backfire? Could it be time to change plugs for you?

I experienced something similar. I started the car up in the garage and it sort of "coughed" once but then ran fine and still has been running fine for weeks. When I got home that day I noticed that where the car "coughed" was a splash of debris. As if it was just getting some gunk out of it's lungs. Not sure what caused it or what the gunk is. Has not happened again and do not have any trouble with the car. I run Sunoco 94 only in the car and never change to anything else. So not sure if it is a gas thing or not.

I`m used to backfiring happening when you downshift, or abruptly take your foot off the gas. I was under accelleration at the time.

Mine did it when I first started the car that day having sat since the previous day. No pressing of the accelerator, just turned the key to start it up and let it warm up to running temp.

I unintentionally went to colder plugs a couple of months ago. I was ordering something else and at about 36,000 miles I figured it wasn`t a bad idea to replace the plugs while I was going to have the IC off anyway. I had the wife order replacement plugs and there was a communication breakdown so instead of direct replacements, I got one step colder plugs. I didn`t realize it until after I had them in and the car was buttoned up. The car seemed to be running okay so I left them in. I still have the original plugs, which look to be in good condition.
The only power mods I have are a Forge BPV, MS-CAI and the PG turbo inlet.
I`m saving my pennies for an AP before I get really nuts with the modding.

did the car hesitate when it happened? it was probably knock.

when did the farting noise happen, between gears, at the top end.....how was the road you were driving on any dips potholes etc. coulda been suspension noise

not meaning to be a dick here but...while all help is always appreciated here by everyone, please read the entire thread before asking questions...

i've heard of people blaming it on the dog before but the car? come on man just fess up. your gf was in the car with you, you let one slip accidentally, there was nobody else to blame it on so you made up a story about the car and then posted on here so you could show her that it really was the car. come clean.

neither am i but it may help the diagnosis if he was in gear at what part of the rpm band he was in, how hard he was accelerating, if he just got into gear or was about to shift etc....lots of info missing that could help

I had 1 step colder plugs for when I had the AP. Sold the AP but left the plugs in. They fouled within 1500 miles. I took them out because it would misfire under load and was just plan nasty if you got on it.

Maybe pull the plugs out and swap them for the stockers to see if it goes away?

I`ll definitely check the plugs this weekend. If it is the plugs, it sure came on abruptly.

In answer to the request for more details, I believe I was in third gear, under part throttle (medium to heavy but not full out). I don`t know what the rpms were at that exact moment. I know I hadn`t just shifted, so they weren`t really low.
