MP3 258/1500 [blue]
This started a little while ago, just out of the blue when I was driving it started to make a knocking noise from the front end. Note not an engine knock, I thought it was maybe a CV Joint but I checked them out and they seem fine. I cannot find the source of this noise and I fear if I cant find it its gonna break worse. Any ideas?

Need more info.

When does the knocking occur? Constant knocking noise regardless, only when you turn, only when you go over bumps, etc...

Off the top tho, I would guess your swaybar endlinks are shot.

The Sway Bar would make alot of sense. But more specifically it sounds as if a playing card was set in a bicycle wheel. And its only when driving both turning and driving straight. How do i tell if the links are shot?

Wheel bearing. Sounds like it's about to blow. Take it to a shop today. If the bearing fails, you lose your hub & wheel. Not fun.

And if your endlinks are shot, they will wiggle and have lots of play, they should have none.

Damn it I was hoping that it wasn't that. Around how much would it cost to have that replaced?

It varies. Typically ranges between $200-$350. Stealership charges ~$315, IIRC. I would take it in to a shop to have it looked at tho, at least. It may not be the wheel bearing, but you don't want to find out the hard way.

You can do them yourself, but the bearings have to be pressed out of the rakes, and new bearings back into the race. So if you don't have access to a press, you don't really have a choice...

Oh well thank you for this useful information. I will look into it and get back to this thread with an update.

Np, that's what the forums are for. You can try searching the forums, also if you have more ?'s. There is a lot of info posted on this topic around already. Suspension noises are a very common problem with the 3rd gen proteges. Especially with the Racing Beat suspensions. Too common...

I fixed it solo. It was a bearing. I ended up having to go to harbor freight buying a 12 ton press and still ended up way ahead of paying a mechanic. It was not hard. A full days work yes, but a fun days work. Plus when the other three go i have the tools and the expertise to fix those too :).

You can get a good one on sale as cheap as 75 but usually they run about 150 there. Register then shop there and I get 20% off coupons regularly in the mail. Some tools are good to buy there but some i would not.

x2. Pick your tools wisley. I am weary buying stuff there sometimes because they are alway offering a warranty for additional money on almost everything. Too funny. The press is my next tool to buy.

Glad to see it worked out. ;)

+1 Some of their stuff is crap, haha. But a lot of it will get the job done.

Well i went to harbor freight and got a really nice one, the lower model of the two available. It was 141.00 but I printed out a coupon and brought it down to 120. Glad I bought it, it did its job perfectly. Does anyone know where I could buy a stock mp3 front valence? Ran over a popped tire a while back :/ hoping to fix it.

I doubt it, but maybe. I've never looked for a new one, but I have a broken one from an MSP that I have sitting around for a rainy day....

Mine is chipped. I plan on using mine as a template to make a aluminum one. This is the second on for me already hence the accord lip. Plus then I can make it full length and coat it too.

I'm thinking about trying to cut down the ends of an MSP splitter to around one foot long and then mount them sort of like these:

They wouldn't come back as far, but they may look alright... Idk I got the broken splitter for free, so it's a non-loss situation, lol.

Granted, mounting & looking acceptable with the accord lip may not pan out at all...
