My first accident with my CX-5 (vs 2004 Sonata)

At least you hit a car and they payed for the damage. A couple of weeks ago I backed into a dumpster and broke my passenger side tail light!! Now I have to replace it about $280 w/o installation; those were quite expensive few drinks I had that night!! (mad)(mad)

Uhhhh, IMHO I hope you never left the parking lot while driving under the influence. (The price of a DUI in monetary and non-monetary terms greatly exceeds $280).

I wasn't drunk. Just tipsy lol. I'm just joking, was fine; the problem was I was looking through the rearview camera and didn't realize the damn dumpster had a steel bar sticking out on the top which was above the camera height...

Update.

Got my car back from auto body shop. They made the repairs, but no matter how good its never the same as the factory. You can tell its been in an accident which is a bummer.

Just went to Carmax and received a car appraisal at $16,000. They noted that autocheck (carfax equiv) shows 1 accident and appraiser was able to tell it had repair/paint work on the hood and fenders.

Thats quite a bit less then what I was expecting. KBB has the trade-in value of $17,950 if it wasnt in the accident.
So $17,950 - $16,000 = $1,950 is the Diminished Value of the car do to the accident.

Time to put together my demand letter to the insurance company to get compensated for my financial lose.

I was considering getting the Mazda6, nice looking and has a manual 6sp with 184HP engine (0-60 at 7.3sec) + higher MPG in the Touring trim at very good price ($22K) with $1K Mazda loyalty incentive. If I could get $18K for my CX-5, then its only $4K difference to get it.

more to come

Here in CA, hit and run on private property is chargeable.

I witnessed an incident in Concord in a private lot, called cops with plate number, car descrition, driver description, etc. They called me right back after stopping perp, had me drive 2 blocks to positively ID driver and car. Busted.

You are indeed a scholar and a gentleman.

When my CX-5 was struck in a parking garage, and though CCV positively proved multiple people witnessing the incident, none of them did a thing. No phone calls, didn't leave a note, didn't tell a soul. In my book, those folks are just as bad as the negligent, hit and run assholes who are driving off.

Needless to say, I was stuck with the bill. The CCV video was too poor quality to lift a plate, even after the city of Dallas investigations group attempted to analyze the video with their, "special equipment". Psh...some good that was.

It goes without saying, the hellish pain I would inflict on an individual, if I got my hands on them, after wrecking my new car and then driving away.

Anyway...carry on.

While heading straight a driver decided to make a illegal left turn right in front of me..
They received a citation by the police officer for making a illegal left hand turn.

My damage was appraised at $2,147 for new hood, front grill, front bumper and paint fenders to blend in the new parts. About 20 hours of labor over 4-5 day repair.

Other drivers were always pulling that kind of stunt on me when I drove a pavement colored Subaru. It stopped happening when I decided to always buy white cars. Now, it's very easy for other drivers see me out of the corner of their vision even when they are negligent in looking properly. I imagine other bright colors would work too but I like the way white cars look and stay cool. When I ride, I also wear a solid white motorcycle helmet for the same reason. It really helps avoid bad days.

Judging by the accident photos, it looks like the negligent driver slammed her brakes on after she realized her error and, thus, stopped right in front of you. Perhaps if she didn't slow down, combined with your hard braking, there would not have been contact?

Maybe... Maybe not.... would have been close one...

I went to CarMax and they appraised the car at $16,000, they noted accident report on Autocheck.com and the repaired accident damage on fenders and hood.
Also went to local Mazda dealer who verbally offered $15,000 and also noted the accident vehicle history / repaired work.

Given KBB trade-in value for year, mileage, and condition should be $18,000, I sent out a diminished vehicle value loss demand letter the insurance company for $2,500 claim.

While at the Mazda dealer, took a good look at the mazda6. Good styling and feels like they upgraded material quality inside, but I hit my head in the front seat against the sunroof and the roof in the rear seats. The truck is tiny and I enjoy the higher sitting position of SUV with much better visibility. Too bad they aren't bringing the Mazada6 wagon to USA, that might interest me.
