Tsunami, your friend just has the auxmod basic right? I received an email from them today saying that they would put me on the waiting list for the auxmod advanced so it would work with my ipod. I just want the basic though, so is it possible for you to find out everything your friend used for his to make it work with his ipod? thanks!

I put an AuxMod basic in my wife's 3 a couple of months ago to replace a high end FM transmitter. I'd been on the waiting list for ages and it was well worth the wait. The install took all of about 45 minutes (and that's being really careful) and it sounded much better than the FM transmitter.

As for charging the iPod from the car while using an AuxMod, good luck. You may find that as soon as you connect the iPod to the AuxMod and car power of any kind, you get either that squealing or a buzz from a ground loop. This isn't a flaw in the AuxMod at all, but rather a side effect of connecting to car power. If you try it and get the noise, you might try using a ground loop isolator from Radio Shack.

I say just run the iPod on its battery if you can. That's what I do.

Awesome. thanks a ton for the info. I can probably live with running the ipod off the batteries since i rarely drive very long anyway. Does the Auxmod basic come with everything I will need to get it going?

also, anyone with the auxmod basic who has the ground loop isolator and battery charger, PLEASE post in here. I want your opinions on your setup

I have an iTrip that i used to use in my car and i think i might have got the same problem u did, but im not sure. I fixed my problem because i found out that the volume level on the iPod has to be between 50%-70% if it is higher there is major static with even the slightest bass and if its to low i think it said there was a high pitched noise so u might try adjusting the volume directly on the ipod to 50-70% if it isnt already. Other than that i dont know man.

yeah, i did that, I tried the volume as low as about 20% on my ipod all the way up to like 90%. bad sound quality too. returned it today. I am now on the waiting list for the auxmod and cant wait to get it!

nicely done... i think the only thing you need to go with the auxmod is a cable, my roomate had the same issue with the noise due to the charging he got a ground loop isolator from radio shack and has had no issues since...

Yeah, it just needed a cable and possibly a small zip tie for strain relief (but that might have been included, I don't remember).

I just picked up one of these and ran it under the center console and out next to the passenger seat.

Of course how you hide the cable is up to you, though.

for the protege a new headunit is easier to install. I just got an alpine with the ai-net RCA adapter and never looked back.
