Showing the radar detector hardwire. Its a bit ghetto, but I couldnt bring myself to drill the dash.

The computer in the glovebox. Sort of a tight fit :D

The bezel under construction. Basically I made an aluminum plate and smoothed it with bondo spot putty. Turned out pretty good I think.

Right now its only being used for mp3s + some divx movies- but a GPS, OBDII reader, and dvd player will go in eventually.

More pics to come of it in action + the audio stuff.

Good job. For my radar detector I extended the power wire and ran it through the dash, up the driver's side A-pillar, along the headliner and down to the mirror. Nice and clean with a factory look and easy to do.

you know they sell small form cases that you can hide... lol

but very clean install on the screen. :)

Not really much room to hide them. I have amps under both seats. It could go in the glovebox, but it would still be useless as such.

Now if via ever comes out with nano-itx on a real scale (they were supposed to be out 2+ years ago), I could just embed that sucker in the dash.

Wow, nice mounting of hte screen. I should be getting some parts in a couple of weeks to start my project. 2.5 years of planning finally coming together

Very nice work on the bondo. I may have to change my screen. Anyone want to buy a Xenarc 700IDT?

Hmmm... I keep reading threads about carputers and seeing how great they look - I see my self spending a lot of money sometime in the near future...

You could always wire the radar detector into the map lights so you don't have it hanging out of the vent like that ;).

Holy Crap. Ever seen this?

Yeah, but the setup would cost me $300 with no real performance gain as a result. Gotta save up for a turbo kit :D

Im actually using the same power supply module as that thing.

How much does a set-up with the touch screen cost? I think I want to put one in the Scamp.

Any ideas how much this stuff weighs?

I spent around $600 with everything including the audio setup- about $200 for the actual computer ($140 for the screen, $60 for odds and ends)

However, the comptuter was free since the parts had been lying around for years.

Weight? Very little.
The whole thing cant me more than a pound or two heavier than the stock radio.

The audio setup, however, probably adds 30-50lbs.

Could I program my lm-1 w/ aux box into the carputer and use it to datalog everything through it? That would be completely badass. I wouldn't have to hook up my laptop and worry about if I have enough battery life left for another run.

Links, info., etc. would be appreciated.

Im not quite sure what a lm-1 is.

Is it an ems?
If so then, yes. It can do anythign a laptop could do.

Check out the mp3car.com forums. Thats pretty much where I got all my info.

yes you can. For my car, I have my zeitronix w/b datalogging O2 and boost for now, egt on the way. I tune my mpi via the carputer and have gps navigation. I also have a obd2 cable on the way from www.tekmatetools.com to read and clear dtc's as well as lots of other sensor logging with the stock sensors.

I dont think the scamp has to worry about the latter ;)
