i've had my whole system hooked up for about 6 or 7 months and have not had a single problem with it. all of a sudden my amp wants to start shutting off after it's been on for a while. if i turn the radio off and let it sit for a minute or so and then turn it back on the amp comes on also, but just for a little while. then it shuts back off. right after xmas i installed the alpine cva-1004 and hooked my ps2 up to that. still no problems until about a week ago. anyone have any idea what would make my amp just shut off like that? i have no idea. thanx!!

ur battery is toast, mine did the same thing.

i dont' think it's the battery cuz everything else is fine...the car starts fine and everything else is good. i have the optima red top battery and have had it less than a year. any other possibilities? thanx!!

soemthing in the charging system is fried, go have a diagnostic run on the charging system, sear charged me $10

if everything else is working fine, there is a good chance the amp is overheating. do your lights dim severely when you have your system on at night? if that hasn't changed, then it's probably just the amp. you can go to discount auto parts or auto zone, or whoever will test your battery for free, and they will also be able to check to make sure your alternator is putting out the correct voltage.

Maybe coming unhooked from power source Mine was doing this about 3 months ago Right under the driver side floorboard thees a yellow wire that was coming out of its plug causing it to come on and off Look for that maybe

What do you have?
What is the amp powering?

You need to determine if its your amp for certain, its possible that the radio is cutting out aswell. When it goes out look to see if the amp light is out. Some amps will have a protect light that may be on. You should verify all your connections again. A loose remote wire, power wire, or ground wire will cause this. There is a chance the amp is damaged.

An amp can continue to be powered even if the ground comes loose so be sure to very both sides of each connection. Also if possible measure the resistance along the power wire form the battery to the amp to ensure you don't have something opposing currect flow.

all the connections seem to be tight, but i will double check that tomorrow after work. the light on the amp does go out when the amp shuts off. the amp is a kenwood 600W amp (not sure of the model number, have to check that tomorrow too). it's pushing 2 10" subs, dual i think (i know they're bad). like i said, i'll double check everything tomorrow and let you know. thanx for the help!

ahh that amp yes if you put it over its ohm load it will over heat and shut up. go feel the amp one day. IM sure thats your issue.

so the main power light on the amp shuts off, and the red protect light does not come on? if that is the case, it's probably not over heating. that's usually caused by a poor connection or low voltage. most amps when they overheat will go into protect mode, where they still stay on, and a protect light comes on to let you know it has a problem.

that amp doesnt have a light really it flickers to it that shuts up its very quick and sometiems nto there

i checked all of my connections and they are tight. i unhooked the amp and hooked up my other one (alpine f240 or something) and it seems to be working fine. it's been on for about 30 minutes or so and hasn't shut off. so, i'm guessing the kenwood amp is bad or something, i don't know. at least i have some bass again. thanx for all the help.

Well.. sounds like it is something to do with the amp. maybe the amp is just bad or maybe you have to low of a resistnace. post what the specs are on the amps. and what subs you have. if you have access to a DMM meaure the resistance that the amplifier sees.( the end of the speaker wire before going into the amp) you could maybe take the amp and have it tested. hard to help without the info. I see some stuff in your sig. but dont say what speakers are hooked up to the amp that you are having problems with.

i think it's more than the amp cuz the other one is shutting off on me now too. but the specs on the kenwood KAC-829 amp are:

Max power output (4 ohms)
normal 200X2 and bridged 600X1

Rated power output (4 ohms)
normal (20 hz ~ 20 khz, 0.08% thd) 100X2
normal (DIN45324, +B=14.4 V) 100X2
bridged (1 khz, 0.8% thd) 300X1

Rated power output (2 ohms)
normal (1 khz, 0.8% thd) 150X2

Frequency response (+0, -1 dB)...... 5 hz ~ 50 khz

Signal to noise ratio....... 100 dB

Sensitivity (MAX) (rated output).....0.2V
(MIN) (rated output)......5.0V

Input impedance.........10 k ohms

Low Pass Filter (12 dB/oct.)....80hz

Operating Voltage (11 ~ 16V allowable)......14.4V
Current consumption (1 khz, 10% thd)........28A

the specs on the subs are:

Dual 10" Bandpass sub system
1000 watts peak power, 500 watts rms
frequency response: 30-200 hz +-3 dB
efficiency: 94 dB
impedance: 4 ohm

i hope this is enough info

This helps. are you sure the subs have a 4 ohm impedance? cause if the resistance is to low the amps will get hot and shut off. That could be with both amps shut off.

everything i wrote down was what was on the specs sheet that came with the amp and with the subs. so i guess they do have a 4 ohm impedance. i'm about to go out to the car and play around with everyting some more. any suggestions on what to do? thanx for the help.
