What is the principal function of my 2002 P5 stock alarm system??? How does it work??? Is it safe or i need to install another one?

Thanx...

I've got a remote.. is it an alarm system or what? When I press two times on lock, there is a ''bip'' sound....

its just a simple antitheft i think
they stole my car 4 months ago
i guess it didnt deter them

Mazda peripheral alarm

Mazda will sell you an optional alarm system if you're willing to pay. The dealer charged me ~ $500 CND. It's integrated into the remote key fobs system. They install a small red LED between the steering wheel and your instrument cluster that flashes when you lock the doors. When the alarm gets activated, the horn will honk randomly, imitating the sound of someone in distress. I'm told it doesn't have a glass breakage sensor.
I later had installed an Auto Start alarm for less money with a remote starter. This unit works really well with a 1500 ft range and it's two-way. If someone attempts to break in, the remote will beep/page me or vibrate. It's an LCD remote that provides visual and audio feedback (ie. 2-way). There is a small antenna that gets installed behind the mirror and has a blue flashing light when activated. The alarm is one of those high-pitched, annoying sirens that cycles thru different sequences.
I should have saved myself money and not bothered with the Mazda alarm. And BTW, if you lose your Mazda remote, be prepared to spend BIG BUCKS to get a replacement. I was charged $143 CND last year for one - and that was with a 10% discount and no programming fee. It's legal ****! A secondary remote for my Auto Start was only $40 CND.

Hope this info is helpful.

Cheers, Mark :)

sounds like you dont have an alarm system.

the bip is to tell you youve locked it when you press twice.

that is, unless it was on the sticker saying you got an alarm system.

yeah sounds like you just have the remote entry...which means all you can do is lock and unlock your doors...if somebody breaks into your car or bumps into it nothing will happen...whereas if you had the optional alarm it would sound by beaping or honking when somebody breaks in...i've noticed that different dealers sell different alarm systems...there's not really a standard mazda alarm system that i've noticed...truthfully it's not really a great alarm system...the only reason i got the alarm is that my dealer will sell me a new car at cost and give me $3k towards that car if my current one is stolen...

just test it out yourself.. very simple.. get into your car.., lock yourself in it, and unlock the door manually and open door... if you had one installed by mazda.. it'll sound... b/c only your remote can deactivate it...

sure you can try and set it off yourself after locking the doors....

the FACTORY alarm ARMS the very first time you push the LOCK button on your remote....the remote that you got looks and functions the same whether or not you have the factory alarm...

however....IF you have the factory alarm....there will be a small red led light on the steering column between the steering wheel and the gages......if its there....you have the factory alarm....if not...you don't.

Is there a parrot in the house? Coulda swore I said the very same thing above. :-)
Are there REALLY some people that don't know if they have an alarm or not? When you made the deal to buy the car, I certainly hope you know what you got in the deal. It's written on the agreement of sale!
