Mud Flap Installation

2011 Mazda 2
I bought some mud flaps that fit the 2011 2, they are not OEM, but I cannot figure out how to install them. Can anyone give me tips? I'm confused because the screw hole on the wheel well isn't a real screw, it's some type of plastic thing that has arms that spread out. That screw thing isn't large enough to fit through the mud flap and still go on my vehicle I don't think.

Any suggestions?

Somewhere here I posted that I installed the Rally Armor UR flaps. Those come without any holes and have to be trimmed. It sounds to me that the flaps you got may be for the 4 door sedan which would be different but how much is unknown to me since I never installed a set of those. Anyway, I did need to purchase a set of hardware for some 30 bucks I think, from Rosenthal/Finishline. I asked them for all the hardware required to install OEM Mazda mudflaps on a stock 2. They shipped a bunch of hardware all longer than the stuff I removed. I had to match, mark and drill holes in my new flaps.

The Fasteners you describe work by going through the flap and then through the fender liner then through whatever sheet-metal or plastic the fender liner originally attached to. This is why the longer hardware was required.

Hope this helps. If not, sell it and buy OEM at a discount from Rosenthal/Finishline.

I used OEM flaps on the rear, but custom-made my own for the front. I took out those plastic clips entirely and went to the hardware store and picked up some plastic drywall anchors, stainless screws and washers. The anchors go into the holes where those plastic clips went, then I put the mud flaps on top and screw them into the anchors. I wouldn't try to reuse those original plastic clips with mudflaps as they wouldn't be very strong...hit a chunk of snow or something and you'd lose the mudflap.

Yeah I've been delayed installing them because I forgot to bring them with me lol, I will definitely post pics when I get time to install them.

I received non OEM mud guards for Christmas and am either going to return them and toto my dealership and get OEM or attempt to install them if they look decent. Just looking for some direction on the installation.
