[font=geneva,arial,sans-serif]But as China's manufacturing-based economy absorbs more steel -- and, as a result, the materials needed to make steel -- scrap has gotten scarcer. In the first eight months of this year, the U.S., the world's largest producer and exporter of scrap, exported 7.4 million metric tons of discarded structural beams, shredded cars and manufacturing detritus, up 24 percent from the same period in 2002. China now accounts for the largest single share of U.S. scrap exports. About 2.1 million metric tons, or 29 percent, of exported U.S. scrap has gone to China this year through August, well above the 1.6 million sent to South Korea and much higher than the one million sent to Mexico

Did you happen to miss the articles in the papers? China has been buying up every single piece of scrap metal the world has to offer...they've caused serious shortages in many raw materials. The shortages are effecting many manufacturers, not just mazda.

OK, OK here's correction of my post, we are not discussing commodity markets here, but Mazdaspeed 6
"All this metal shortage is bulls*** in relation to production of Mazdaspeed6. EVERY car needs steel and I didn't
hear about 10 month wait on Mazda3 or regular 6.
Mazda has some reduction in capacity and in such cases production is
focused on cars with highest profit margin, and MS6 is definetely not the
one. "
Happy now, Mr Wall Street?
Dear DAVID,
A quick glance at the all-new MAZDASPEED6 tells you it serves up far more than a turbocharged power plant, 6-speed manual gearbox and standard all-wheel drive. Case in point: Its taut, athletic silhouette features a head-turning array of performance-inspired enhancements giving it the perfect balance of performance, sophistication and style.
Note the unique grille and hood. Aerodynamic front and rear bumpers. Distinctive side sills and rear spoiler. Special headlight and taillight treatments. You'll even find 18-inch alloys surrounded by
high-performance tires.
The inside story is equally compelling. From steering wheel-mounted controls for audio and cruise control systems and drilled aluminum alloy foot pedals to performance-inspired front bucket seats, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, and 200-watt Bose speaker system, the MAZDASPEED6 will exceed your expectations in record time.
Best of all, this cutting-edge performance sedan starts at just $28,555* and is scheduled to arrive at your MAZDASPEED dealer this fall 2005. But until then, click here to take an interactive tour.
