Got call from Mazda salesman. He said that production is cut in half and no cars be made until August(Canada). he offered to refund my deposit..
Don't know what to do yet, but thoughts like g35 coupe come to mind...

Mine (1st one of the 1st shipment in Ottawa) is supposed to be here in two weeks. Guess I'll have to check in with the dealership next week.

There is alot of false statements flying around about production. Technically primary production isn't slated to begin till march. Supposedly there is a few extra ones floating about that may reach some customers...but main delivery (in the US) isn't slated till summer 05.

Aka you might want to check to see if your dealers are just feeding you lies so you don't pull back your deposit.

^^ No deposit for me to pull. I've just opted into a new lease when the lease on the wife's ol' 2000 Protege is up. I've worked with the dealership a bit in the past as they sponsored my MSP for the local Import Nite Auto Show so when word of the MS6 came out they offered me the first one to arrive. I'll check in next week and then get back to the board.

I called another dealership and asked about delivery times(without disclosing my "inside" information). They said that it is still early summer.
I will call Mazda Canada customer service on Monday, this is just BS!

Never believe a thing a Mazda dealership salesman tells you ever. Call Mazda yourself for the info. I didnt even purchase my car thru a salesman.

There was an article in the "The Daily Yomuri" which is an english newspaper about Japan...I don't have it on me at the moment but I recall it saying that Mazda was cutting production by a certain percent while other makes like Nissan Toyota and Honda are increasing...:(

Well, I got the first drive of mine yesterday. The handling seemed pretty good and the accleration wasn't too shabby either. Too bad it was only on GT4...LOL! Argggh! Gonna call Mazda Canada tomorrow.

Here is the memo from Mazda Canada:

Re: Mazdaspeed6 Production

Mazda Canada, similar to all of you, eagerly awaits the launch of this exciting new
member of the Mazda family. Initial indication was production would commence in
March and to this end Dealer orders were submitted.
Unfortunately we have now been informed production launch has been changed to
address overall R&D workload levels and program requirements at Mazda Canada, and
production launch of the vehicle is now expected to be this summer.
The March production orders will be deleted from the system and you will be reallocated
production once the timing has been confirmed. Having you resubmit new orders will
allow you to reevaluate your needs should your requirements have changed.
We are sorry for the delay. Should you have further questions, please contact your
Regional office.

Just got off the phone with Mazda Canada. They said don't expect the car until mid-summer at least. **** a duck! I just might have to hop on over to the Subaru Legacy GT. I am not a patient person and already I have been waiting for months. Gotta think this one over a bit.

Since my MSP sold the other day, I'm a bit frustrated over all of this, too :) At least I still have Shelley's automatic 6s to drive, so I'm just looking at it this way: I'll have more money saved up when it does get here......

Considering the current state of delays, don't expect this next deadline to be met. How many times has this car been delayed now? I'd consider fall 2005 a safe bet for final arrival...unless something else catches on fire, or china sucks dry another raw material.

All this metal shortage is bulls***. EVERY car needs steel and I didn't hear about 10 month wait on Mazda3 or regular 6.
Mazda has some reduction in capacity and in such cases production is focused on cars with highest profit margin, and MS6 is definetely not the one.
G35 will do just fine, thank you.

Obender,

Did you happen to miss the articles in the papers? China has been buying up every single piece of scrap metal the world has to offer...they've caused serious shortages in many raw materials. The shortages are effecting many manufacturers, not just mazda.

2003 Dec
[font=geneva,arial,sans-serif]But as China's manufacturing-based economy absorbs more steel -- and, as a result, the materials needed to make steel -- scrap has gotten scarcer. In the first eight months of this year, the U.S., the world's largest producer and exporter of scrap, exported 7.4 million metric tons of discarded structural beams, shredded cars and manufacturing detritus, up 24 percent from the same period in 2002. China now accounts for the largest single share of U.S. scrap exports. About 2.1 million metric tons, or 29 percent, of exported U.S. scrap has gone to China this year through August, well above the 1.6 million sent to South Korea and much higher than the one million sent to Mexico

OK, OK here's correction of my post, we are not discussing commodity markets here, but Mazdaspeed 6

Happy now, Mr Wall Street?

Actually there is a delay on other mazda's too...if your placing an order. There is a big difference between cars already available on a dealers lot, and those not yet produced.

Order a normal mazda6, and you'll be waiting quite a few months for your car to arrive. Happy now, Mr Internet?

Ho Hum...more bad news

here's what Mazda North America (MNAO) told me today.......

(The MazdaSpeed6) is ESTIMATED to be launched sometime in August or September of 2005. Again, this is not an official launch announcement. Mazda has not begun production or applying any orders from dealerships.

So....even though I have this piece of paper with my name and a number attached to it, NOTHING has been done with it by MazdaUSA. The overall feel I got from the entire message is that they (MNAO) don't even know when it will happen....sigh!

Delayed again. Offical release is no longer summer 05, but now sometime in "Fall 2005"

Dear DAVID,

A quick glance at the all-new MAZDASPEED6 tells you it serves up far more than a turbocharged power plant, 6-speed manual gearbox and standard all-wheel drive. Case in point: Its taut, athletic silhouette features a head-turning array of performance-inspired enhancements giving it the perfect balance of performance, sophistication and style.

Note the unique grille and hood. Aerodynamic front and rear bumpers. Distinctive side sills and rear spoiler. Special headlight and taillight treatments. You'll even find 18-inch alloys surrounded by
high-performance tires.

The inside story is equally compelling. From steering wheel-mounted controls for audio and cruise control systems and drilled aluminum alloy foot pedals to performance-inspired front bucket seats, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, and 200-watt Bose speaker system, the MAZDASPEED6 will exceed your expectations in record time.

Best of all, this cutting-edge performance sedan starts at just $28,555* and is scheduled to arrive at your MAZDASPEED dealer this fall 2005. But until then, click here to take an interactive tour.

Zoom-Zoom!
