MSP vs Nissan Sentra SE-R

they are both nice cars, but stock vs stock msp is a lil bit faster in 1/4s end of story. and by a cheap MBC set at around 9psi the MSP will be faster by over 0.5 second.

whoo, how did i miss this thread?

the fastest POSTED stock 1/4 mile e.t. for a spec-v is 14.8, Plano_SEr. thats not too shabby, eh? point is, all you naysayers are tools. it IS a driver's race stock for stock, and gradually, mod for mod, the MSP gains an advantage. but dont forget, there are some VERY fast sentras out there, and while they may be sloppy looking, sloppy handling 4 door shitboxes, you can damn well bet theres someone in your area with a spec-v that will trounce you for all youre worth. i respect the MSP a lot, and a big part of their respectable owners. but most of this thread is garbage. MSP this, Spec-V that. i dont give a s***, say what you will about the car, and while it may not be the fastest thing on the planet, people forget the spec-v community is at a loss for aftermarket support when compared to the protege. oh well, there's no sense in arguing about it.

for comparison's sake, an otherwise stock spec-v with an FI-R turbo kit puts down roughly 250whp. on 6psi.

sometimes i wish i had a turbo, because making lots of power with a lot less money is captivating, but guys like me do it the old way. no boost, no nitrous, no nonsense. as far as handling, the car is only as good as the driver. i've seen many an MSP bow down to SRT-4s at Solo2 events. and at the same time, i've bowed to a few as well.

point is, be happy with the car you've got and quit trying to out-do everyone else. you may think you're some hot s*** when you lay a whoopin on a spec-v, but 99% of the other people around the world couldnt care less. i hope one day, people come to realize that modding cars is not a cutthroat competition.

kudos,
Phil
Amen!

I owned a 02 specV for one year before I got my 03.5 MSP.

Now here are some facts that I have not heard anyone mention I this thread yet.

  1. Most 1/4 mile and 0-60 times posted for the spec V were based on the 02 model. In this year they had shorter gearing and a hyper sensitive knock sensor that would pull timing under hard acceleration. The gearing was so short that you would get to 60 in the middle of third.
  2. In 03 they revised the gearing and a lot of my spec v friends tell me that the 03 model is a little faster.
  3. In 04 they change the knock sensor and tweaked the ECM. They say that the 04 is even faster and dyno higher stock than the other two.
Round 1:

When I first got my MSP I raced my friend with a stock 03 spec v three times in succession from 0-100. He beat me by 1/2 a car length the first time. The second and third time he beat me by 3 car lengths. I was pissed.

Excuse:

It turned out that my car was hesitating that plus the IC was heat soaked because of the back to back runs.

Round 2:

I had the car flashed and we ran again but this time I let the cars rest between runs. I ended up beating him buy 1 car length in each run.

Round 3:

He put on the hotshot headers, removed his cats, did a custom 2.5 exhaust, removed the balance shafts, put on a CAI and bumped the timing. I was still stock.
He beat me by about 3 or 4 cars; it was so bad that we did not race again that night.

Round 4:

I put in the Unichip, did a custom mandrel bent 2.5 exhaust w/high flow cat and a K&N drop in. I beat him by 2 cars each time. (evil)

He is now planning to install a set of Nismo cams.

To be continuded........

just a lil off topic, A guy at work has an 02 TT quattro. We went from ~10mph roll yesterday. I ended up almost 1 1/2 cars ahead of him. Is that possible or is he just a bad driver?
-I'm stock and for some reason running 7psi and spiking to 8.

However, there is about a $3500 price difference between the two. With half of that spent on mods such as exhaust and intake - it might be a closer race. Then again - MSP owners could always safely push an extra 2psi for the cost of a homebuilt MBC.

ok this is insane we have one in my car club he has headers intake exaust and cams. he was beat by our other msp by 3 carlengths. the msp had intake full exaust and 12.5 psi of boost. needless to say our ser spec v friend was mad. but i have to give props those cars are fast. The gears arent long enough though. but if you want annoyingly fast check these cars out cause nither msp in my circle can beatthem

vw: 1.8t with revotech, exaust, cold air intake, 4bar fuel system
rsx type-s: short ram intake, headers, toda cams, and full exaust

needless to say the three cars i mentioned are roughly even with a stock msp. when they all raced stock the spec v (04) won every time. so the spec v in stock form is no slouch BUT the msp requires a good driver to win in a stock to stock race.
