msp to ms6, any regrets?

06 Liquid Plat. MS6
Well, title says it all. I've had loads of fun in the MSP, but am looking to get out of it while I can still get some money for it. I test drove the MS6 and it's more of what I'm looking for in terms of power and comfort. Right now, I'm trying to decide if it's worth doing private sale to get my money out of the MSP and switch over to the MS6 with minimal change to budget, etc.

Has anyone had any real regrets in making the switch besides maybe appearance? Just trying to weigh my options at this time.

good - no torque steer, awesome traction in the rain, ride is firm but much nicer then the protege, bullet on the highway, quiet and doesn't have the starter car image, nifty adjustable HIDS, way nicer seats.

Bad - 240miles to a tank in city driving, not as nimble as msp, Doesn't rotate on power like the msp above 30-40mph (lack of front lsd), awful bose stereo, awful clutch feel/take up (on or off).

I'm sorry but saying that a FWD car rotates on power is not only one of the silliest things I have ever read, but its not even possible...

Now maybe the MSP got such good traction from a LSD that when you got on the gas the rear would kick out, but that is a weight trasnfer occurence... it is certainly not a "power rotation".... that would require a AWD or RWD car...

Also, I'm not sure how you drive your car, but if you go into a corner a little on the heavy side and get the weight to shift on the car.... once the car feels like it is slightly rotating, get full throttle and it will "Power Rotate" all the way through the corner....

Clutch you will get used to, now I really like it...

240 Miles on a tank is probably about average if you are town and stay in the boost frequently, but if you can control your right foot a little bit expect more than that... some owners have reported 320+....

I don't mind the BOSE too much, but I have to say I spend more time listening to the turbo than the radio...

i don't see how the rear would kick out when the LSD is aiding traction. the simple matter of the fact is that one of the tires of the MSP with more traction is getting more power and allowing the car to turn. so...you don't necessarily need AWD or RWD to "power rotate". maybe you're thinking of power oversteer, which is not what happens (obviously) in the case of the MSP

Wiggem, i think you need to read up on your mechanics before you say such things. The torque sensing lsd aids in rotating the car under power be spinning the outside wheels faster, in turn pulling the car back in to the apex. I've driven the msp for 3 years, yes it rotates the car under trottle. As for the ms6 rotating under power?? No. What you are getting under 10mph when you punch it in a turn is the coupling binding. Try to punch it at 40mph in a turn, you essentially get throttle on understeer, you do NOT get that in the msp. It just tightens the line.

No regrets here. I miss the MSP Blazing Yellow, but I do like my White Water Pearl also. Both are great cars.

How can you not get your car to rotate??? I am having no issues what so ever, in fact at my last AutoX the announcer was making fun of me because apparently I thought it was a drift competition :)

And on high speed corners, the Speed6 doesn't really understeer to me, but then again, I tend to induce a bit of weight transfer with a throttle lift while turning, then getting back into the gas....

I can say that it is possible that for torque sensing FWD car to "rotate", but it is not possible to "oversteer" on power...

But then again if getting the rear to slide out is the goal, anything with a large rear sway bar will do that....

Second day of driving the ms6 after trading in the msp. No regrets, and will probably not have any. The ms6 is a more "grown up" car, and that is what I was after. Ms6 handles great and I like it. Loved the msp, but that time is over.

Well put.

Did you get the reflash done already?

The dealship said it was done. Any way of verifying it? I'm still in "break in" mode, so I haven't really pushed it. Plus, I am still getting used to the clutch.

thanks everybody, really great to hear. especially from onrails since i knew you had a lot done to your msp. i'm looking for the same, a little bit more of a grown up car. i was slightly concerned with clutch feel, but it seems like everyone is getting used to it. if i do pull the trigger, i'll probably miss the msp's appearance, but i'm sure i can get over it. at 27, i'm kind of getting tired of the hondas and cavaliers and burger king drive through people that take an interest in the car.

No problem. The main reason I felt bad trading the car in was because my son really liked that car, and he will be getting his drivers permit in a few months. I always told him that he could have the car once he had his license. He told me he didn't mind, cause he liked the MS6. ;)

I put alot of energy, sweat, and love in the msp...

The drive into work this morning helped me put the msp to rest.

no regrets here whatsoever. Not that I din't miss the car some. It was a fun car. I do miss the stereo but have more confidence that my bose one won't die. And I do miss the fancy finish of the 03.5 wheels.

This is EXACTLY the point that many, many people seem to miss totally. The MS6 is NOT meant to be like the MSP. It does a great job of doing what it was meant to do...that is grand touring.

I loved, and currently love, my MSP, but I also love my MS6, and am looking forward to loving an MS3 sometime in the future. I guess that kinda makes me a Mazdaspeed groupie huh?
