MSP Sub?

If you mean this one, yes, it seems to be the one. It's the only 8" sub Kenwood makes right now and it matches the phots I've seen of the MSP's sub.

Yeah, dats da 1.

Doesn't seem so impressive when you read the specs. I'm suprised they went with their smallest one.

The whole point of me buying the enclosure is that it isn't exactly the easiest thing to reproduce. And if you did make one it probably wouldn't fit as neat, but hey you never know.

Who knows. My dealer has a black one (might be gone by now, it was sold when I saw it a week ago.) They're supposed to call me when my orange gets in.

The MSP sub is a trade-off between size and quality. If it sounds 75% as good as the MP3's sub, but takes up 25% of the space, it's probably a good trade-off.

For an 8", it had pretty good response and sounded great when I listened to dpmmsp's car. I know its a small sub; maybe its the shape of the enclosure that made it sound as good as it did.
Anyway, I was impressed.

Well, I wasn't impressed with it at all. It's just loud...no good deep base. And this was the opposite problem the MP3 had. So, combine the two, and I should be happy :)

I guess it depends on what kind of music you listen to. Or maybe I'm just not as discerning. :)
For my Yanni CD's it should be perfect. ;) LOL

You guy should play with the setting a bit. After I played with the settings on my MP3, I found the perfect set. And yes, it definately depends on what type of music you listen to. I'm more of a trance/house/techno guy myself, so to much bass can give you a headache. When I litne to hip hop on the other hand, bass is welcome. So I say adjust the settings a bit. The clarity from having the tweeters up front is what I liked, it was very crisp. The bass on the other hand when I was playing with the presets didn't slap like the MP3 did.

I am acctualy thinking of replacing it with a jl audio sub, I have had great experiance with there products, also i am not sure that the housing that is in the trunk that the sub is in is the best in terms of sound generation.

yeah, and the amp is upside down. Your not technically supposed to mount them upside down. Considering how much space is around it, I don't think heat is going to be a concern at all though.

I am coming from having a couple of cheap 10's that were under driven, but that 8in. is sort of weak. It doesn't hit low enough for my liking.

The high and mid frequencies in the car sound great when you get them adjusted up right and get the super lows off them so they don't distort, but the sub just can't seem to fill in the lows when they are needed.

Other then the sub it is a pretty decent system to work with. I guess if all you have to do is add a different sub to it, that isn't too bad. I'm going to wait until this summer after I get a couple car payments deep to upgrade the sub.

I'll probably get a rockford amp, a couple 10 in. polks, build a box and get it port tuned (I have no idea how to do that). hopefully get out of the deal for around $550 and get the bass/system I am looking for to go with the killer ride.

I think it sounds better and since it is mounted better you get better feel also. Also since the head unit is better you have alot more intricate control over the sub and the other speakers as well. It took me about 20 min to adjust all the settings.

to be honest both subs are lousy.
By the car for the performance and if the audio is good enough then lucky you. My MP3s system barely lasted a week before I ripped the hole thing out.

I was a little disappointed with the sub. Plays good, but when pushed loud, basically past the 22 mark, it starts to break down quick. The system could use a really good 8". Maybe that JL upgrade might not be a bad idea for those who want to keep the enclosure.

Ya, get a 10".

A single 8 will never be enough in a trunk.
If you have to then JL 8W7 :D available soon, but it sre as hell won't fit in that tiny box. To be honest not to many decent 8" will.

FOr drop in, nothing would do in my advice. Get a single JL 10W0 in JLs premade box for $169 and call it a day.

You could try a 8W3v2 but Its just one 8" in a trunk it won't do much. The problem is to get good bass from an 8" it needs to have high excursion, that means it will have to be a deep sub.
