03 Spicy Orange MSP
Tonight i was headed downtown to the university of tennessee campus to cruise the strip. I noticed this bmw pulling in from the turning lane, he hits the gas and tries to cut me off so i punched it, bmw owners are like lexus and infiniti owners, they'll take advantage and cut you off as long as they dont think you'll hit them. These ppl make make me sick, so i punched it in 4th gear, blocked him from cutting me off. I dunno exact specs on this bmw i know it was a bit older not by much maybe 98 or so it was a round but square looking body style it was white, but it definately wasn't a new bmw. Anyways, he slams the gas and starts pulling on me and my bestfriend (passenger) goes dont let that guy pull on you. so i throw the car in 3rd and punch it onces agian blocking the bmw from my lane, about this time i see the rear end dip on the car and i knew it was on. i slammed the down the accelerator and i was pulling on the bmw i pulled even, i looked over and the guys chin was in his lap, as i passed him. i was about a car length ahead of him and i hit the brakes. My friend is yelling Oh My God, You pulled on a BMW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING. SMOKE HIM, SMOKE HIM. i said, nah, let him go i think i embarressed him enuf. @ the next redlight the guy wouldn't even look over he was looking down at his gauges. The crosslight went yellow, and I could hear him revving up. Light turned green and he started squealing tires smoke started comming up in the mean time i had a half a car lead on him. then a full car lead on him, i hit the brakes due to traffic, the guy eventually ended up pulling buy me due to traffic and his head was shaking i bet he was thinking :wtf:
i dunno what was up, I would have thought i didn't stand a chance. Altho i have a friend with a 97 Eclipse GS that pulled on a new BMW 3.5.0.3 i think it was i dunno how BMW does there number or whatever but it was the new bodystyle roundish looking very nice clean cut car. Anyways, my friend pulled on one on the freeway and the guy was looking over like ,
I had future plans way down the road of buying a bmw like the new bodystyle, but i think i'll stick to my MSP instead :D
Thursday night, im hitting the 1/8 track down here @ knoxville dragway. I'll be racing a few friends down here, 97 Eclipse GS, Prelude, 300zx n/a, and whoever else wants to run my msp, i dont care about losing, its all in fun. I just wanna see what my reaction time is gonna be, and what my 1/8 mile time is. for my stock msp. I'll scan and post my slips when i get back to maryland.
Take Care Everyone

More INFO on poll

I'll be racing each one of these cars on 1/8 mile track this comming thursday.
The 97 eclipse GS Has CAI, MOMO Exhaust, Header, 17" rims, lowering springs.
300zx n/a not sure on the year all it has is k&n filter
Prelude, I dont know crap about this prelude, i know its factory, and its older, but not old bodystyle has the Triangle shapped lights in the back like the old accords.
Just kinda curious what you guys think, i heard blackMSP i think it was say he beat a n/a 300zx, and the guy in the prelude says he think's i'll win cuz of turbo, and i have previously raced the 97 eclipse and i pulled on him with ease.
anyways Give me info and opinions on what you think.
Later

WHOA... someone that said it right... you said HEADER, not HEADERS. you now have respect from me. i give you props.

I think the prelude will win, if it's the generation before the last one, that was the prelude's fastest gen.

Saying a car has a turbo means nothing, oooo I could go buy like a geo, and slap on a turbo and it'll still only put out maybe 120 hp heh...

But the prelude with a proper launch should get the fastest times. (mid-high 14s)

the 300ZX is heavy, and was slow unless if it was a turbo.

Eclipse...don't know too much, since we never had them here in canada...what model/year talon does that equal?

those are all based on 1/4 times...1/8 times can be diffrent.

anyone that knows a little bit about tracks knows.

1/8 mile is almost souly based on torque, and a 1/4 is based on HP, this is what i have been told. maybe a better way to describe is is 1/8 mile is bassed on a car with bottom end, and 1/4 mile is better for a top end car. The prelude i know nothing about i met the guy when i was getting my windows tinted he said he'd race me he says his prelude needs alot of work. so i really have no clue. Like i said i dont mind losing, its all a learning experience hey who knows i'll prolly redlight the first few races until i get used to the reaction time.

havent hit the track yet BUT!!!

havent hit the track yet, but tonight we were all cruising around and found a secluded road, i ran the eclipse gs once agian i blasted him i was about 2 car length ahead by the end of the road, i raced the 300zx and beat him by prolly a car length but he claimed he fuxored shifting. i also raced a camaro z28 of course u all know who one that one, i beat him off the line and through second then he blew by me so fast i felt like i was standing still ;)

Nice nice kill

I believe it was a 325 series, with 6cyl vtec engine. They run maybe as good as a Civic SI stock. 15.9 on the track?

Great torque, so...its a bit hard to catch them, they pull very hard!!!!

So, congrats, thats what I expect from my P5 turboed.

I'm not sure about the other cars, but I own a 94 Prelude with the H22A VTEC engine and the MSP doesn't compare to the Prelude in the power department. When I was breaking in the MSP I thought it would be very close, but I have been able to really test the MSP and it just doesn't have the power that Prelude has and seems to struggle while it's progressing through the power band while the Prelude climbs VERY quickly and smoothly. Before I know it, it is time to shift.

300 zx's arent made for off the line speed.. if it was the mile it would kick your a** but not in the 1/8. The closet one that could beat you is the Moded Eclipse GS but thats even doubtful cause those things are slow as s*** unless he has tons of stuff done to his car. Unless you mess up driving then im pretty sure that you can beat any of those cars.. stock preludes wont match the Mazdaspeed but they do have potential with some money

Stock Preludes with the H22A engine will beat the Mazdaspeed when talking about 0-60 or quarter mile. There were only a handfull of the 4th generation H22A VTEC models delivered to the US from 93-96. 93-95 VTEC models had OBD-I and are the most desireable because of the OBD-I and are said to be the quickest of all Preludes. 96 models all had OBD-II. 97-01 Preludes
(also OBD-II) all had the H22A engine but they are about 100 lbs heavier than the 4th gen Preludes and they have different gearing.

Based on Ryan's description of the Prelude it is a 4th generation model. The triangle tail lights can't be confused with any other car. You will definitely loose against a stock 4th gen H22A DOHC VTEC Prelude. You may have a chance if the Prelude is a 4th gen H23A DOHC Si model and you will definitley win if it is a 4th gen F22A SOHC S model. You just need to find out which model it is. When you finally meet up with him, open the hood and look at the engine stamp located to the left of the header, if it is H22A then he has the VTEC model (will also say VTEC on the valve cover). If it is H23A then he has the Si model (great engine with 160 Hp and a good amount of torque). If it is F22A then it is the S model (135 hp).

I own a 94 VTEC Prelude and the Mazdaspeed so take my word for it.

The preludes are quick. I owned a 90, 92, and 97. Loved them all. What I find about Preludes, especially, the 97 and up with vtec's for some reason, people don't know how to drive them. They do require some skill to launch right and when to change gears, more so then the older 92-96 style. Driven right, they can break 0-60 under 7.0 sec. 6.6 was the fastest I remember seeing done for a 97 stock.

I loved those cars. Damn, why did they stop making them :(

You're right Newf, the newer Preludes are a little more tempermental in terms of the gearbox.

The 4th gen gearbox is much more driver friendly and has great gear ratios. Basic numbers for the 4th gen VTEC were 14.9 - 15.1 sec. in the quarter and 6.7 sec. 0-60 sprints.

I love the car also, which is why I chose to keep it. On the Prelude boards, those who sell their cars always come back in a few months saying they wish they never got rid of them.

I'm just glad I'm fortunate enough to be able to have both cars.
