msp build parts (preview!!....:)

awesome :) cant wait for my build to start

Yea, me too man. Next wednesday I'm dropping off the car at the shop before I fly up to M.D. for thanksgiving.
Should be about 2 to 3 weeks to finish up the engine assembly and turbo installation. Hopefully I'll have it running before the new year!

Nice! Hit me up when you're up here, my cars back on the road :)

Do you still have my cell #? If not pm me.

hey derrick , i was pretty busy with the fam, but i'll be sure to hit you up the next time I come up to maryland. Hopefully, I will be up there in march with the speed:)

I painted my manifold with high temp paint and baked it for 2hrs at 300degrees! I'm pretty happy with how it looks, could have done some more sanding on the first runner but it won't be on the car for very long...;)
The precision endtanks look pretty crappy so I sanded, primered, and painted them silver.

Before you install your injectors, replace those seals that you painted or you will have a bad boost / vac leak. Found that out myself lol!

Your not keeping the 626 manifold?

nope

They should be okay since I taped them and cleaned them today, but if not thanks for the info maxx.

All three of those items are on my list. What are the dims on that FMIC core?

The intercooler bolts onto the frame of the car because unfortunately I'm going to have to take off the bumper support beam.

I just got back from the shop and took some pictures of my motorless car and built motor, but first here is the story leading up to where I'm at now.
Originally, I was going to use Jomo's built motor but we ran into several problems. All the cp pistons were pretty much destroyed because the motor crankwalked so much when it was in his car. If Joe and I had known that the motor wasn't built well in the first place of course I would have never of purchased it..there goes a huge chunk of my money invested in this project. My mechanic who disassembled the built motor found a thrust washer sitting in the oil pan and large grooves(friction) in the crankshaft from the improperly installed thrust washers and main bearings. So, the only parts that I could salvage were the crower rods. Finally, the only way I could have used the shortblock was to send it to a machine shop to get overbored(cylinder walls were scorred from piston slap), but I don't have the time or money for that. Plus it needed a new crankshaft too. I'm really pist off about this whole situation and I'm not going to name any names, but this motor was doomed from day 1. Oh yea, note that it only had 3500 miles driven when it was built before it was uninstalled and I bought it. I'm not recommending people to get work done at this shop anymore.

Currently the shortblock, crank, bearings, main rods, and thrust washers are in joe's garage. Pictures of those parts coming soon.

Here is a comparsion between my stock piston vs. the cp pistons that were in the built motor. Clearly, the forged pistons banged the cylinder walls pretty violently. I'm proud of how nice the stock pistons and rods look after I was boosting 12psi!!

My guess is a valve floated and tapped this piston and took that chunk out.

Held together strong for 50,000 miles.

Now, on to some good news! Since I didn't use the motor from Joe, the only thing left to do was use my stock motor. So far, everything has gone smoothly and quickly too. The cylinder head is being assembled, however, they ran into a problem because the crower cams need to be shimmed. These cams have a much much larger lift than the stock cams.

Here is a pic of my car....haha, she is friends with the van.

Nice build, its cool that you are taking picture of the steps to document the process. That reminds me that I need to take pictures of before and after of the P5 engine when it gets machined.

have fun installing that lol sweet build though
I'm not installing the engine haha I dont' have the time, space, nor patience to do it myself. thanks man

Thanks D, I hope this thread will help people who want to do a project like this understand you need time, money, and patience. lol

sorry to hear sanders - i may be able to help - if you don't want the block i could kick you down some $$$ - can it seriously be salvaged? i don't mind over boring provided it is minimal.
