MSP alarm

I did a search and have been on the forum for months and months so I know about the previous threads about this but I was hoping for a once and for all kind of answer....

Where is the sensitivity control for the perimeter alarm on the MSP? have people with MSPs confirmed that it is indeed under the dash like nuke said the regular proteges' is? does anyone have a pic of it? :)

I have looked up under the dashboardon the driver's side for a zippo (or any) sized box with a little white knob and didnt see anything that looked right...

What is the perimeter alarm? When it goes off is it a alarm noise of car horn and flashing lights? and slamming a car door near it in its most sensitive setting should indeed set it off correct? this is what "perimeter alarm" means?

thanks!

the perimeter alarm is an alarm that can be triggered from the perimeter. It can be triggered by a car that is too loud in the perimeter (near the car) or when something hits the car. Normally, if the perimeter alarm sounds, it is just a honk if it triggered by cars coming by or if something hits the car softly.

It's a shock sensor. The normal alarm is just current-sensing.

My understanding is that the shock sensor with the adjustment on it is near the steering column. Somebody had pics, I think. Try another search.

its underneath the steering column. get on your back and look up, its a black box. tap on it, and the LED should light up. there is a white knob on the side. turn it for sensitivity setting.

its the same exact setup as in the 02 ES.

if its not there, man u got screwed :D

Ok... I had heard about this perimeter alarm, but I haven't done anything with either mine or the one on my wife's '02 ES. I guess you have to begin adjusting it, to activate it at all?

And; who all has theirs set?

Cheers!

it might be set to off. the knob turned all the way to one direction will deactivate the device. thats why i say tap on the box to activate the LED. if you turn the knob all the way to one way, and you tap the box, and nothing happens, you know its off. so what i do is just increase it a little bit. cuz where it was set at, the alarm would go off when a truck would drive by. the alarm is good and all, but id rather not attract attention to the car if nothing bad is happening to it.

It's almost centered with a white zip-tie around it.
I stole this picture from 122 Vega's Blitz DTT write-up...so, props to him.

yep, went out and looked again...this time in daylight :)

and i found it, turned the sensitivity up and a door slam nearby made it beep as well as a light knock on the window

for future reference I noticed if you put your steering wheel all the way up as high as it can go there is a gap at the bottom of the steering column and oyu can see right under the dash and the alarm box is right there.....

been having weird things happen with the msp. last night the alarm went off while i was driving and also when i parked it in my garage. you say that turning the knob all the way will DISABLE the alarm and u know by tapping it. however, when i drove this afternoon it went off in traffic. i thought it was supposed to be off? plus. if it's off and you lock your doors then why does the red light on top still turn on and blink? have you guys really tested all this stuff or are you all just guessing it disables it? one last thing, does your car lock itself when you leave it unlocked? mine does.
