MS6 vs. STi vs. Evo

The ms6 isn't performance looking and has sort of a bland interior but it is right up there with the others in power and awd. I am sure someone will turn this luxury vehicle into a fast and worthy competitor.

Maybe a better comparrison would be S4 to Ms6? The 6 is incredibly heavy and has options that weigh it down even more. It has no rally breeding and the base is a fwd, LARGE sedan, with tendancies to understeer like crazy. The volvo r as well.

So I would try to put up something like - Volvo s60 R vs. S4 sv. ms6

A better comparo would be the MSP6 vs Altima SE-R. The S60 R and S4 out of the MSP6 range as for price and market segment.

Altima Se-R is fwd right? The volvo rs resale is almost as bad as the 6. People on the volvo forums are finding them used for 26k

The Mazda6 MPS will be AWD (active torque split, all-wheel-drive system) and turbocharged and the engine (inline 4) will have direct injection. Torque is quite amazing (380 Nm @ 2000Rpm --> 5000Rpm flat curve). The chassis will be more than 50 percent stiffer.

At this point I would like to know how it will compare against a series 3 Bimmer 330xi and I wouldn't be surprised if that was indeed Mazda's objective

380 Nm = 280,27 Lb/Ft

the only real competition in the price range for the ms6 out right now is the legacy gt. the s4 and volvo are a bit expensive. the altima se-r is probably in the class too, but lacks awd, which puts it at a disadvantage around here in winter. i'd have to test drive to compare, but the legacy gt is a pretty sweet car, so the ms6 better be good to compete

does the current 4 cyl model use direct injection? just curious, direct injection is sweet, that's what all cars should use

Yes the Altima is FWD. I feel the S60R isn't in the same class as the MSP6. The MSP6 would be better at competing with the Legacy GT, next gen Passat w/4motion, and the Accord Type R if it was available here.

Its not a highend entrylevel sportsedan like the BMW 3 series and Audi A4. But it can run with them for sure. The base 6 handles like a E46 3 series.

That's what I got:

"In European specification, the all-new MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO motivates the four-door sedan with an estimated 191kW (260 PS) of power and 380 Nm of torque. The introduction of a direct-injection fuel system to the turbocharged engine infuses the already powerful acceleration that is expected of turbo performance with ample torque in the low and mid range to deliver excellent response, while also realizing lower emissions. A six-speed manual transmission will be the only gearbox available in all markets"

I forgot to mention that the gearbox is new but road tested to match Miata's smoothness (the 6 speed)

holy crap.....lets just compare it to everything since there doesn't seem to be a definate niche that it is in.

screw the seats, I want a decent intercooler

The pictures I've seen of the M6 intercooler will probably shock you then :) It's a weird top-mounted unit but there is no air-scoop ( la WRX)!, the air seems to be forced in from the front grille and heped in by the shape of the new hood

well if it works, good. But if it works as good as my speed....not good.

Here's my 2 cents on this thread. This is pretty much all a given.

Type of potential buyer:

EVO/WRX = racer boy image, import fan, rally fan, real auto enthusiast

Mazdaspeed6 = Much more mature, conservative adult with a bit of the above in him/her but doesn't want to show it as much. Not willing to sacrifice luxery for pure raw performance. What's a combo of both sport and practicality.

I think they are completely different cars. I think the MAzdaspeed 6 will appeal to the M3 wannabe owners that can't afford them. The Legacy is also a good comparison and another fine ass car. The Acura TL being another similar type of car.

I'd love to have a M3. But, if I'd rather save my money and get the MAzda honestly, as long as it's a RELIABLE TURBO, and doesn't hesitate, buck, hiccup, stutter, or whatever you want to call it that is so common in Mazdaspeeds.
