I think there was a problem with my passenger side rear brake. the pad died pretty quickly compared to the others and now it's kinda eating the rotor :(

Anyway, it's been like that for about 2 weeks so this morning i went to the store to get the disks and pads but they didn't have them. the guy couldnt even find the disks in his system. So i started looking around for other car parts store and they're all closed. (sunday...mehh)

I'll try again during the week but i wanted to know, trying to prepare myself for the other stores telling me they can't get me some disks, are there other disks and pads compatible with the 6? I saw some threads about the front brakes possibly the same as a volvo s80 and audi s4, but i was wondering if i could order the rear brakes for another car? Maybe the store next to my house is able to get the brakes from another that would fit mine

thanks

i think the only ones that are remotely "verified" are the audi ones.

i didn't want to take the risk and just ordered mine from therpmstore.com

shipped quickly, had them in like 3 days.

cool thanks for the info

i ended up trying this independant car parts store near my house and he had some generic brake pads in stock and ordered some rotors. got them the next day (yesterday).

I just tried installing them tonight...and i'm having problems. i can't get those 2 screws off to remove the rotors and cant compress the piston back in to fit the pads

i went to buy a torch to heat the screws but maybe it's too crappy and doesn't get them hot enough. a friend will lend me his tomorrow so i'll give that another try

how did you compress the piston? I usually use a c-clamp, it worked fine on my P5, MSP and my gf's Kia but i can't get it to compress enough on the 6. there's probably something i have to do that i dont know of :(

for the screws just drill them out. they are only there to hold the stock rotor in place during assembly.

yeah that's what i ended up doing. I tried a philips head on a ratchet but ended up stripping 3 out of 4 so i drilled them out. i didnt know it was meant to be like that

so after lots of time, scratches and frustrations, it's all back together now. Next time i do this it will take me 30mins tops

The screws are called set screws.they are removed with a special tool called a impact screwdriver. You have to hit the base of the impact screwdriver with a hammer and it will remove the set screws.
Just using a regular screw driver and twisting will not apply enough force quickly enough to remove the screws and will result in you stripping the set screws....As you found out....While a little late to help you hopefully this info will be helpfull to someone in the future...
