Ms3-vs-wrx

I raced one at the track. I was stock at the time and I think he was too. He got me in 1st gear by about one car, but I catch up in 2nd and in 3rd I passed him at a good rate of speed all the way to the end.

The only way I don't see you beating him soundly is if perhaps he has a Cobb Tuner he's not telling you about. The WRX TR is detuned quite low, and it responds very well and abundant to ECU mods because of that. It's basically a detuned STI, and slightly detuned Legacy GT. Even my 04 STI added serious power over stock just by plugging it in, even without intake and exhaust. You plug that baby in, and you add 20+whp on the WRX easily, and that's without exhaust and intake mods. If he has a Cobb tuner along with those other mods, you would be in some trouble, and would likely get smoked off the line badly.

Assuming he doesn't, shouldn't be a problem. However, you are comparing the middle grade Impreza to the top of line mac daddy Mazda 3, so you better kick his butt. ;)

Ya I'm 100% stock.

The engine in the 2006 wrx tr(EJ25) is almost identical to the 2007 sti engine, they respond to mods really good. But the VF39 (stock sti turbo) is much better then the wrx tr turbo. He now has the VF39 (stock sti turbo) and kills me, plus I'm 100% stock:D

I don't think I could catch him unless I had a bigger turbo and supporting mods.

Ok for one the WRX does not respond well to a CAI, unless programed for it. Also the wrx's are renound for having weak tranny's. In these cars you should treat the tranny with respect, no launching on pavement and no slamming gears. I guarentee if your friend is driving his wrx hard, one day he will tell you that his tranny is ****** up(fuoops). The STI tranny is a different story all together. I have never ridden in a MS3, but oncw off the line you should catch up pretty quick. Just dont miss your gears. LOL I have to laugh when I hear people say the missed 2nd. Drivers race though, good luck

Youll kick thier a$$ on the freeway :) espescially if you WOT shift after 3rd ;). From a dig it will be neck and neck, just depends how fast you guys are willing to go. If your on the freeway just make sure your boosting before you go, just hold on the gas a tad. I walked easily on the freeway stock for stock. I dont even consider it a challange on the freeway...

It's not even close stock for stock.

O ya his tranny blew at 4000 miles (hah)
So now he has some race tranny and his gears are crazy close together. He shifts more often then me going to 80 and his is a five speed. I don't even care that he's faster in a strait line. We live around some crazy windy roads and he can't keep up with me on them so thats what I believe to be the most important. He has cobb springs, sti shocks, and cobb front/rear sway bars. Plus I'm a little better driver then he is...
