A minor correction, if you don't mind.

Letting air out of the tires won't make them any softer.

Well maybe my tires defied the laws of physics because I couldn't get my S2000 out of a parking lot one day with about 2" of snow on the ground and after letting about half the air out of the rear tires, I was able to drive it the few miles I needed to get home from work.
