ms3 hp numbers?

If I was a betting man, my money would be on Mazda using the de-rated version of the MS6 motor that they are using in the upcoming CX crossover.

I can't see Mazda upstaging the MS6 by dropping the same rated motor into the MS3.

but then again they took away all wheel drive so they might just put in the extra horses. also look at the market the ms3 is going into, srt4 ss cobalt, these are cars that mazda wants to beat out not tie so i would bet my money towards an engine with more hp than either of those

Do you work for Mazda? Only Mazda knows what they want to do.

Mazda, traditionally, has never had the "top dog" car when it comes to HP, instead putting their efforts into making some of the best handling cars ever to come out of Japan.

So what if the next SRT-4 has 300 HP? It's ugly and more than likely won't handle half as good as whatever Mazda offers. Besides, it's relatively easy to up the power in a turbo car (more boost, bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, etc.), so I'm sure it won't be long before somebody has a 300+ HP MS3.

Your other choice, the Cobalt SS, is only factory rated at 205 HP (although most dyno runs show this output at the front wheels), this would indicate about 235-240 crank HP, which is right about where the detuned CX engine is rated. And, the Cobalt SS still doesn't handle as well as a stock 5 door MZ3, IMHO, and I have driven both vehicles. Just imagine how much better the MS3 should handle!

I wasnt talking about the new srt-4 i was talking about the old one which handles quite well, better than the current mazda 3, i know this for a fact because i have both cars. I said Mazda is going to want to out do them, i never directly stated head to head hp ratings. They need to out do the older gen srt-4 because if they dont then they wont have the top handling or the top hp for the dollar, they will have a more refined car going for them but as far as sport is concerned they will lose the market. Not to meanchen that they have to work towards the new civic si as well, its ugly but its nice.

i work for mazda and i do hear enough to make speculated and/or educated guesses.

- the car will have no more than 260hp
- the car will be hatchback form only
- the car will be front-wheel drive with no option for all wheel drive

mazda does not want to cannibalize on sales of the mazdaspeed6 or the CX-7 and CX-9 vehicles on the way. if the car came as a sedan, had AWD, had as much power and was cheaper than those vehicles, they'd be robbing peter to pay paul on thier ms6. enough corporate sales reps have come my way and all but confirmed this.

Um....I don't mean to pry into this, but are you saying that the old SRT-4 handles better than the Mazda3. I've driven both and the SRT-4's handling was comparable to my old Jeep Cherokee and only marginally better than my '78 Cadillac...but that was probably due to the lighter SRT. I drove a SRT-4 at an AutoX last year and I couldn't get it to turn worth a flip. I had much better times in a stock Honda Accord and SVT Contour.

Ive had nothing but good experiences in it so I geuss, no comment? (uhm)

mazda guy told me the other day 250-ish......just saying what he said and also look for them around early summer.

Well compare the ratings from the CX-7 (244 hp) and the MS6 (275 hp)...I would assume the MS3 will have a power rating somewhere in between...Say 255 hp.

Tires make the difference between the two. Oem SRT4 comes with the BFG G-Force which is better rubber and a LSD as of 2004 so that is the difference. Still the MZ3 will still put that Neon in its place. I have done it several times with no rebutal. Stock MZ3's with a prokit and RX8 wheels and rubber. The beatings through the twisty stuff is quite dis-gracefull.(whip)
