MS3 and Winter rims

I've seen a couple of reviews mention that the new MS3 has larger front brakes again. If I remember correctly, didn't the last gen MS3 have the same brakes as the MS6 or am I wrong?

I'm bringing this up because as a MS6 owner, I'm telling you guys, there is not a lot of room left when you put 17" wheels on. The brakes are really close. If the brakes are indeed larger again, I'd be worried about having to get 18" winter setup.

I could be completely wrong, I don't own either MS3, but someone might want to check the actual numbers and see.

I fit 16" steel wheels on my 07' speed3 (and so did a bunch of other people). It's all in the type of wheel, not all of them will fit. I'm pretty sure it has the same brakes as the speed6, but I can't remember for sure. I know it has 12.5" rotors, I'm in the middle of a brake job right now.

I thought the ms6 had 13" on the front.

Guess I'll have to google...

a quick google says

Mazdaspeed 6 brakes: Braking is by discs all around, with fronts measuring 12.6 inches and vented, and rears measuring 12.3 inches and solid.

From everything I've seen (spec sheets, pictures, etc.) the 2010 MS3 has the same exact brakes that the '07-'09 MS3s have...

Front: 12.6" (320 mm)

Rear: 11" (280 mm)

Even the calipers look to be the same across the two generations.

I don't know where all this talk of the brakes being bigger is coming from...

me neither....

The problem i was running into when looking to fit rims on the 2010 MS3 wasn't so much the clearence around the inner diameter of the rims but instead was the outward clearence of the calipers to the spokes of the rims. I know that choosing a smaller offset for a rim will fix this but almost all the OEM rims i've seen have 50+ 60+ is the absolute MAX you can use.

With factory 17" Mazda6 rims on the 2010 Speed3, I had almost a full inch of space between the calipers and the inner rim. PLENTY of room!
