is it possible if i order from the dealership to fit the mp5 lights in my mp3? cause i talked to this guy and he said they didnt fit but i saw an mp3 with them. does anybody have any info on this???

they are a direct swap out, its a matter of the wiring harnesses.

Just to add a little something...

The housing is a direct fit, but you will have to get the P5 wiring harness also and splice it into the MP3 harness, if I am not mistaken. Rishie's partner did it so contact Rishie to get all the info on it www.autornd@aol.com

I was wondering that since the 2002.5 P5's come with side markers, isn't a complete bolt in swap, no wiring mod needed. I'm probably wrong and I don't know anyone with a 2002.5 P5 to let me check.

APEXistud, whats up, I remember you from ClubSi. :) Back on subject, the P5 still runs two bulbs, H7 and 9005 so you would still have to rewire.

anyone have any insight as to why in the world mazda would make the exact same lamp housing.. but one w/ an H4 and the other w/ an H7 and 9005??? just seems idiotic to me... just keep it all the same... after all... the two cars are basically the same family or whatever... just one is a sport tuned version of the sedan.. and the other is the wagon version of the sedan... and what type of lights do the regular pros take? just out of curiosity

and just so were clear... we are talking in the main housing right?? like the hi/lo beams?? not including the parking lights or turn signals right?? because i know that the inner parking lights on the mp3 take 9005s... or maybe it was 9003s??? cant remember... they were the round ones that look like miniater socket light bulbs from a house lamp... and the number was either 9005 or 9003 because i asked the guy at my shop for some blue ones :)

--edit--
and this ocurred to me right when i hit submit... Why wouldnt we just be able to mount the single bulb setup from the mp3 in the p5 lamp housing?? i mean.. the harness is part of the bulb/wiring.. not the housing.. unless of course the harness on the bulb end wouldn't mount into the housing properly... the reason i say this is because obviously w/ one bulb we do get good hi/lo... so why use 2 bulbs just for switching out the housing...????
if anyone can answer that question.. that would be cool too...

I personally like the idea of a two bulb set-up. when your low beam goes out its cheaper to replace the low beam single filament bulb than it is to replace a dual filament hi/lo bulb. plus if you retrofit a HID set up, since there is two separate light buckets for high and low beams, the light pattern will still be correct. in the single h4 setup if you install HID, the beam will be extremely bright and blinding since it is using the high and low beam areas of the single light bucket. It sounds confusing, but trust me on this one.

yah... but the whole point of HID is blinding people isnt it?? i thought thats why everyone bought em!! ;) j/k ... but yah.. honestly.. in my opinion brighter is better... and I'm probably not goin w/ a full on HID setup... maybe eventually but not for now... so i'm hoping that I can fit the single bulb into the p5 lights when I get em.. which shouldn't be to far from now... and if not.. then, well... i guess i'll have to re-wire :) oh yah.. and i do have another question... I was playing w/ bulbs and lighting and stuff yesterday, and i came across something... on single bulb hi/lo does the bulb switch to hi by reversing the + and - signal??
example: lo beams would be like this + | -
and then hi beams would be like this - | +
like when you put on the hi beams the polarity switches around.. is that the case or am i just crazy??

Wow, that's old school man, I haven't been on there for a long time. It's cool to see how many people recognize my username.;)

if i remember correctly on the H4 bulb you are 3 posts. One is a common ground, one is power for low beam filament and the other is power for high beam filament. The switching between the is only effected by the headlight switch, it does not work by reversing the power and ground.

ok.. good info for later reference... and heres why i asked that...

i wasnt playin w/ an h4.. i was actually playin w/ the 9005 from the inner parking lights on the mp3... i bought 1 and the guy gave me one for free cuz it was opened.... i put the new one it.. and it worked... however, when i tried to put the old one in.. it was dead... BUT.. if i turned the bulb around, so that + and - were backwards, the bulb would work! but it wouldnt twist into place to hold itself in.. but the point is.. even tho the fillament was broken/split/whatever you call it the bulb still worked when polarities were reversed... i found that weird... and i figured maybe the 9005s had hi/lo capabilities, and that the idea i stated before about reversing +and- was applicable... I hope that was clear enough for you to understand...

what?!? the inner parking light on the mp3 is an 1157 bulb. the 9005 bulb is a headlight bulb, not a parking light bulb. and the 1157 bulb has, ina sense, three contacts also. one for the running light, one for the turn signal, and one for the ground. (which is actually the bulb housing)

njaremka, hit the nail on the head. 9005 is a headlight bulb, the P5 uses it for the high beam. 1157 is the parking/turnsignal bulb. it had a common ground on the bottom, a power post on one side for the parking lamp, and a power post on the other side for the turn signal. plus the two posts are in different positions so that there is only one way to insert it into the harness.
I've done alot of bulb research since I did alot of selling for http://www.lakeeffectperformance.com. They are one of the biggest sellers in the country for the Catz/FET line of products. I'm hoping to get a one of their new 5100k H7 HID kits. the beauty of Catz is that they are plug and play, no hacking or splicing. They also have a H4 kit and a H4 hi/lo kit as well.
Right now I got Polarg Visual Amber 1157s in my front turn/parking light. they were left over from when I put my Si back to stock. Expensive but they look cool when off. They have a goldish ion coating on them so they turn the TS/P light bucket a gold color when off and light up amber.

gotcha! thanx for clearing that up... i dont know why i thought it was called a 9005.... guess i was just way off... but im still curious as to why the 1157 bulb worked when it was in backwards?? and yes, i know it wont actually fit and stay in backwards, but you can hold it there... and it turns on when you insert it backwards.... just not when it is in the right way... and i dont know if i mentioned it... but the fillament closer towards the top of the bulb is split/burnt but the smaller/lower one is still good.... im assuming that one is the signal and one is the running light.... and is that perhaps why its like that?? because the one that would normally be the turn signal is just getting power when its backwards? but its not blinking cuz obviously thats a feature in the wiring/setup not the bulb itself... ok.. i think i just answered my own question :) thanx guyz
