MP3 Exhaust Piping

Ok here's the deal:

I've had MANY people interested in my stock MP3 exhaust (I'm selling it). The problem is that Per Racing Beat-The only modification to the MP3 exhaust is the muffler.

Does this mean our piping diameter is EXACLTY the same as a standard protege/P5? According to FM's ECU testing at least 7 HP must be attributed to the MP3's exhaust. Can this just be from the muffler alone?

Right now I'm just selling the muffler-unless I find out other info on the piping.

That is incorrect. 7HP is attributed to the mp3 exhaust AND CPU. Most of the 7 is gained from the CPU.
 
Uhhhhmmm. Actually no. Go check it for yourself... The stock MP3 has 10 HP on the P5... 3 of which are attributed to the ECU. Which leaves 7 to other mods. Sicne the strut bar and sway bars can't add HP-it's gotta come from the exhaust.

Our 2002 Proteg5 with FM turbo kit, running at 6 psi through a stock exhaust. Blue line is the stock ECU. The red line is with the ECU from an MP3 installed. The MP3 ECU did cause some pinging on the street with the A/C in fifth gear, 3000 rpm but was fine on the dyno. This is with 91 octane fuel.

So what's the conclusion? Well, the MP3 has more power potential when turbocharged but the timing has to be backed out a little. No surprises there - the surprise was how little of a difference the ECU made.The exhaust on the MP3 must also be quite good if it makes up the rest of the extra power.
 
Back
