no, there were no specs in the article. just says that it's in GT5 class (which is obvious) and that GT5 is the slowest of the 5 GT classes.

The P5 is for sale now.

thank God they didn't race REAL MP3's
That is a real MP3, I'm pretty sure it's the same car I almost bought it last year when it was running SSB.

Its a tube frame racer. The guy was from Georgia, but no real info on the car. I remember someone saying that it had a GLC motor....possibly RWD

Boys, I am the poor SOB in the crash picture, and yes, I am a member of this board! The car in question is a REAL MP3, and it is, as we speak, back on the track after that wonderful race at the SCCA Runoffs

That crunch was the result of a bonzi move by a Honda driver on the first turn. He went off track at about 85-90MPH and used me as a bumper to get back on!

It took 80 hours of pulling, and about 2000$ worth of body parts, but its all back together, and ran last weekend at PIR.

Thanks for posting the info on the Mag issue, I will run out and get a copy, and add it to the cars scrapbook!

BTW, the MP3 has always been a track car running SCCA's Showroom Stock C class. This is one of two cars built by Tri Point in CA, and we have been doing very well with it. The car holds 3 track records, and won the SW division National, as well as the Regional championships in 2004

Ouch, that looks painful. That p5 racecar is killer too...

Somebody find specs on that thing!!!

"Oh, that'll buff right out...that was like it is from the factory....that's sup-POSED to be on fire..."

I remeber seeing that 5 on the runoffs, it's got a motor swap and a bunch of other things done to it.

jmac36, where do you race out of (where do you live?) just wondering if you're in the L.A. area since you mention tri-point. good to hear you and the car are both fine. can you post more specs on the car and the build up? i know probably not much was done for ssc, but more info would be nice.

ouch...stupid hondas. but thats cool. and an interesting looking p5 there. my friend from washington has his escort in that issue as well...its in the readers ride section.

Bruin, we are out of New Braunfels, Texas!Right in damn middle of this huge state, and that makes for real looong tows to anywhere!

To answer your question about the build up of the car: you would be very suprised as to what gos into a "showroom stock" car to make it do all the things it needs to do! Aside from the safety equiptment (cage, seat, belts, ect) there is a huge amount of work that can be done to make it handle, go and stop. It took us a solid year to figure out how to make the car not understeer like a pig!

The car, with driver has to weigh in at 2780 lbs as raced. You are not allowed to do any work to the engine( like any of the top cars are running a "stock engine"!) and have to run with the cats in place, although, you can run open exhaust after the cat.

I prefer not to give away all the little things we have learned in the past few years( never know who's out there), but will tell you, this car, in the 2004 runoffs trim put out 121 HP at the front wheels. Thats with the stock intake, airbox, cams, exhaust to the cats. And the engine was"legal", and would have easily stood up to a tear down in tech!
