More Supercharger Qs

I'm looking into buying a P5 and I'm debating between it and a few other cars. One of the big questions for me is what type of performance can be had post purchase. I've looked at lots of posts on this site, but none have a solid answer to supercharger questions. I understand that Jackson Racing is not going to be making one for the P5, but there is one for the SVT Focus (one of the other cars I'm thinking about getting). Could this kit be adapted (Jackson Racing didn't want to tell me one way or the other)? What about the Miata kit? I haven't fooled around with any Mazda's before and don't know the differences between the Miata and P5 engines. Also, just a word about the turbo/SC debate that I've been seeing. I've had cars with both (a Talon TSI AWD and a Supercharged Riviera) and there is a considerable driving difference. In general the turbo route is the better for max HP, but the SC is usually more daily driver friendly. There is no need to let the SC idle down because it runs at the same RPM as the engine whereas the turbo is running up to 10 times faster, so that any abrupt turn off could potentially be deadly (especially for higher HP engines). SC are also very easy to work on and you can use all sorts of other add ons. Not to knock turbos however, they are the BEST way to get max HP with a small engine (though SCs are often better for larger engines, such as the Riv I had or my old 86 Monte Carlo SS).

Thanks for any info on the P5.

there are no superchargers out currently for the p5. the p5 uses an fs-de engine. the svt focus' engine is a whole other beast, as is the miata's engine. someone on here was supposed to be making a supercharger for the car, but i don't think it has taken off beyond the talking stage.

vortech made one for the wings west mp3 in my avatar. Its not for sale but i ams ure u could order the parts and get the rest custom. U could even ask them how they did it. There are a couple issues though. Although superchargers can generally put out more hp than a turbo they application of the boost is different. It is driven off an accessory(meaning u would have to lose a/c.)...this also pulls power form the engine. They are about the same price as a turbo. now a supercharged turbo... that would be neat

yeah, one thing you'd wanna watch for is putting too much "drag" on the engine. what i mean is you don't want the s/c taking too much power from the engine, cause that pretty much defeats the purpose of the s/c. but the 2L engine should be big enough to handle it. also, it depends on how high you wanna boost. i've read that for boosting below ~12 psi, an eaton-roots style is a really good choice. this is what i put in my dad's 4runner....boosting 6.5 psi. the nice thing about a roots style is that you get max boost as soon as you punch it. if you're going above that, a lysholm(sp?) is a better choice cause of backflows issues i believe. forget centrifugal...you might as well go turbo if you're gonna do that.

Thanks for all the info. I'm still debating what kind of car to buy, but it is more and more looking like a MP5. I can get a 2003 with only 5k miles (a dealer demo) for under 13500. I figure that is a pretty good deal. Also, I understand all the issues with the supercharger, but why would you have to lose the A/C? Every car I have had ran all the accesories AND a supercharger (okay, the 2 cars that I've done it with). I know that the SVT kit isn't losing the A/C nor is the Miata. Is there not an accessory drive to run it off? Like I said in the original post, I've never messed around with Mazda engines, and the only small engine that I've worked on was my turbocharged Talon (wish I still had that car). Just curious. Also, do you think there is decent power to be had with the MP5 without forced induction(through intake, exhaust, and other engine mods)?
