Hey i just bought a 2003 MSP. I am not new to the boost world or nice cars. But i was just wondering why everyone is not on more PSI. I see the average is 10-12psi. Is it because of the motor or because thats the turbos max output. Thanks in advance and my name is Rob by the way and im in sofla.

u can run more than 10-12psi. BUT u will need to spend some good $ on supporting mods, get tuned, replace the clutch/pressure plate with upgrade when stock wears out and the motor will eventually go (it may take a long while, but it will eventually). also, unrevised LSD is kinda weak. if u dont get all the supporting mods especially some sort of engine management with a good tune, u go boom real kwik.

one of the biggest downfalls of the msp is the ecu (imo, and i aint no expert). get some sort of management before you touch the boost. get an exhaust and intercooler too. that's it. that's like 220 whp right there at 12psi maybe

There is nothing the matter with the msp ecu.. There is a problem with people running 12psi or more, which btw is just 1-2 psi from max duty cycle for the injectors.

Look up what psi you can push before you start leaning out at WOT

Mazda should have put 370cc's in, instead of these whimpy little 270's. But they didn't.

I ran at 12psi all last summer, checked my plugs often, and i was a touch lean, not bad, but enough to make me back off to 11.

While the interheater we have isnt very effecient, and the ant hole we call a S pipe couldn't get a milkshake through, i cant see any resonable doubt that you couldn't run 10psi daily driving.

Motors don't just up and leave for no reason, sometimes its a factory defect, few and far between, but most of the time its driver error and lack of knowledge and maintanence when dealing with a FI motor.

Of course im not saying that replacing the interheater with an intercooler wouldnt help, and helping the motor push the exhaust out isn't going to help either, By all means do it, you'll notice a good feeling from your car when you do. it'll feel a touch more liberated.

But IMO its not mandatory to run a higher than stock boost level to a degree.

yea i dont know how many people are gonna agree with you about the ecu part, it's not significant detail eitherway. but the fact that the connecting rods are smaller than kate moss' pinky doesn't help either. however many people have managed to run high amounts of boost with proper engine managment on stock engines

im just reading all these horror stories about blowing motors on here. I had an srt-4 a year and a half ago and i loved it. But i got rid of it and tomorrow i will be reciving my MSP. Im excited but also scared to break it. It has 31k miles and it has an apex turbo back. Would bigger injectors be a great idea or should i start with other mods?? Thanks again.

Injectors I think are maxed even before 13-14 psi, at least with a conservative tune. Just got back from tuning a little and at 10psi with AFRs of 11.9 my injectors are maxed according to the Microtech at 6k+.

True you could run a little more lean than 11.9, but I'm trying to play it safe.

on a side note to this

i was wondering if on a stock MSP motor with mounts and a CAI as my only mods can i safely run 10psi? theres a guy that keeps asking me to run in a minivan SI civic but hes got all sortsa stuff done to it. i dont know if i can take him.

Ah Ah!!!111

i overlooked it but like i said i dont have an exhaust yet but would 10psi be ok if i rand it with juwst those 2 mods? and also was was ondering if i upgraded to a GT28RS and not chage the boost to more than 10psi would it be safr or would i have to also go with WRX 440s and a standalone?

You need a bit more to run that much boost safely. I'd get a unichip and lose the whole exhaust after the J pipe or even the S pipe just for a run. I ran on an open S pipe for a few days it wasn't as bad as you'd think.

Well RNajera since you already have the greddy EBC I'd look for a used one but most of the vendors here sell it. I think JDMSam had a good price on his it just doesn't say on the site unless you add it to your cart.
