mods

check out what I read on mazda's site.

"Modifications to the Proteg Street 2000 Concept include an HKS turbocharger and intercooler, HKS intake and exhaust manifolds and an HKS stainless steel exhaust, which result in a 41-percent increase in horsepower (to 172 hp) and a 87-percent boost in torque (to 225 lb-ft). Other performance modifications include a lowered suspension, Racing Hart 18-inch, five-spoke wheels and four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo components. The Proteg Street 2000 Concept sports a custom full body kit, including one-piece valence front and rear fascias, fender and side sill extensions and a rear wing. "

This never happened, but key is that they equipped it with a HKS turbocharger/intercooler. That means that if they did it, so can we. The rest of the article discusses issues that made it into the mp3 (kenwood system,..). We didn't get the 18" wheels of the concept but I think 17" is quite enough. Besides our 17" is a one piece mag, looks way better than a 3pc.

Was that 172hp at the wheels or the crank? I sure would like to do those mods but if it's more than fs-ze motor than I would just get that from corksport. But could imagine having those type of mods on the jspec motor?

Enry: what's the URL of the above message?

Also, does any one of you are planning to get the intake and exhaust cam from corksport? They are going to fit into the MP3 right? If so, I might get it on the next summer. Anyone could give me more information about the camshaft(like approx how many hp gain?)?

don't know what the actual gains are but the mazda motorsports cam advertizes 10-15hp gain I sent pics to enry of my cam swap and it did wake the car up in the higher rpms

Hey Ed did the addition of the intake cam improve any low or mid RPM power? At what RPM would you say that you can feel the extra power come on at? Any downsides to the intake cam, such as a rougher idle, check engine lights, etc?

You could order the intake cam at corksport.

What about the exhaust cam? The "FS ZE" one on corksport wouldn't fit into our engine right?

ED: what about the gas milage?

I got the cam through our parts department(fsh9-12-420)It took me just over an hour to install.I don't know about the exaughst cam at corksport but if it's for an fs engine it should fit,Iwas going to drive down and pic it up but since all this s*** in the world started the boarders are screwed. From 3500 rpm and upis where the difference is.the base idle is pretty much the same may be slightly lumpy(may be lumpyier with the exaughst cam also).I also removed the warm up cat, this caused the check engine light to come on,will fix this when I move the downstream o2 behind the main cat.As for gas mileage it'a actually a little better 490 km on a full tank (300mi approx)

Ah ok Ed. I got these cam emails and I'm like "cool, what the hell is this?". Now I know. I'll post it on the new website soon as I get it up. Many thanks.

Ed, I saw you posted that you removed your warm up cat. What did you use in place of it the old 626 header(93-95)? I am working on making a header from a 99 Galant 2.4. The flange will bolt right on the Mazda 2.0 head just has to be cut off, flipped over and welded back on.

I had a failed cat from another 2.0 protege that I did under waranty,I just waranteied a main cat today for a rattle.Bosal makes a header for a 2.0 626 that should fit just don't know about the e.g.r piping
