oh boy..

its all up to you.

What are you looking to get out of your car? Dont expect much HP gains.. only way to do that is either a turbo or supercharger..

good place to start is www.protegegarage.com

lots of stuff there.

another excellant location to check is the search button. you have asked the same question thousands of others have asked, and you are liable to not get many answers since everyone has answered this question a million times.

just seach for each individual item you want using the search area, and oyu will find tons of answers.

other than that, welcome!

Here's the route I'm going. It might not sound hardcore to most of the people on here but it will be an improvement over the stock setup. This also doesn't cost too terribly much.

1) Tint
2) Exhaust
3) Intake (maybe)
4) Lowering springs/shocks
5) Rims

As you can see, I'm not after mad gains, just a little bit of a custom look...sometimes referred to as (rice) (evil)

Although a search will only yield about 123442132354354 threads about the same subject, I am willing to entertain your question. We were all in your situation at one time or another, we were just there first.

Right after I got my P5, I got the intake. That is a whole other can of worms. You have the short ram intake (SRI), which is what I have. Others have cold air intakes (cai) They are about the same on ebay, but you may also opt for name brand. I have the ebay...

The next thing I did was get rid of those god forsaken Dunflop piece of s*** stock tires. I hydroplaned within the first week or so I owned the P5. I ened up with the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. 205-50-16's on the stock rims. There are a bazillion threads about tires. These I highyl recommend for rainy climates.

I just got (after 2.5 years of owning my car) a Racing Beat exhaust. I got an insanely good deal on it. It is on the higher end of the pricing range, but you can score one used at a good rate if you are on the forum within the .245 seconds someone posts it for sale used. They run in the high $400 range new. There is a Mazda Sport (Mazdaspeed) exhaust which is also popular, but people have complained of droning, or an annoying sound at freeway speeds. The Racing Beat does not do that. But there are a bazillion threads about the exhaust subject too, look them up.

Then there is the tinting of windows, a stereo, springs/shocks/body kit, carbon fiber everything, etc you will see around here for sale.

Short shifter is next on my list. Kartboy makes a great one, I have seen it in person. The shifter bushings are a must. Get them no matter what.

Well, good luck, and check out the for sale section, and work with the Authorized Venders and sellers!

lol after i bought my p5 i was broke as a joke so my mod route started in the DIY section.headlight housing, fog light, windows, and all tht other good s*** in the how to section.from there i got creative and got some pray paint, lol keep in mind i own the title of "nepocs king of free mods" then got the windows tinted, sri, dropped, msp lip ,,................

You guys have all neglected to mention a header. For around 200 bucks, a header is one of the most significant "budget" modifications you can do for your car. Brands recommended are OBX or Ractive. Be advised, you will be taking out the first catalytic converter to do this mod. But the gains are well worth it!

Check out www.protegegarage.com and you'll see a ton of different engine mods you can do there.

just wanted to say welcome. our forum for sale section has a lot of parts to choose from also.

If the mods you have in mind are horsepower related, then you probably should consider a different ride or be adventurous and take the turbo approach. If you go turbo be prepared to spend some big $$$. IMPO this platform is not ideal for high HP.

Other than that you can make the MP5 handle very well and go to autox with it and have a lot of fun. You can do a lot with stereo and appearance mods too and still have a reliable and thrifty (gas mileage, maintenance) vehicle that looks good. It just doesn't go very fast, and that is okay with most people who buy one.

.... I have had the P5 almost since it debuted. In fact as they were rolling the yellow one off the car caravan I was paying for it. To date I have done a few small things. 1. Intake, 2. Header, 3. Straight Exhaust, 4. Loop thing to stop the CEL from coming on, 5. Painted the lowered part of the hood black, 6. Stereo w/ 10inch sub, 7. 18 inch wheels(now sold) 8. Lowering springs, 9. ACT clutch, 10. Indigo Aluminum Flywheel, 11. Japanese version spark plugs(supposed to advance the timing as they sit a little deeper in the compustion chamber, don;t know if they do though),

Now that the basics are done, I have decided to do cams. I was pondering on doing a turbo system, but that will cost too much money up front, than i pondered a nitrous system, but that will eventually kill my 2.0 L, and the N/A route is all that is left.

check out www.srmotorsports.com they have some kool stuff there.

There's also the supercharger route. What's great about a s/c is that it delivers power as you go, so it's not such a huge kick on the car. Much more reliable. Also right now it's a little cheaper than turbos. You do have to lose your air conditioning though...

I know what you mean, i hydroplaned yesterday, the stcok tires suck!!

My suggestion (and the way I went)

1. Kartboy short shifter and bushing
2. Fog light mod (how-to section)
3. Tires - I also got Yoko AVS ES 100's and I LOVED them.
4. Windows tinted
5. Fiber Images OEM style hood
6. Sound system
7. Ebay cold air intake (exact same as injen)
8. OBX header from ProtegeGarage.com
9. Mental Addiction Motorsports cat-less midpipe
10. Magnaflow cat-back exhaust
11. Motegi FF6 17" wheels

These are just the major mods. There are a number I'm forgetting, I'm sure, but I'm happy with the order I went in. I wish I had gotten the header sooner though. My next mod is a supercharger followed by Tokico Illumina struts and new springs.

I would do the brakes first. I have brembo cross drilled rotors and stainless steel braked brake lines and clutch line from corksport. And hawk pads. I flew off a hill 2 years ago doing 107 MPH in a sunfire, so brakes are important.
(drunk) <----- that's what caused it!

Haha, cool! Since I'm still paying off my car, I figured tint would be the most "functional" upgrade, since I drive at night a lot.
