</TD></TR><TR><TD class=imagecaption>Randy Johnson</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The New York Yankees have completed a deal to acquire five-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Randy Johnson from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Yankees will get Johnson in exchange for pitcher Javier Vazquez, prospects and cash. The deal will not be final until the paperwork is submitted to the Major League commissioner's office.

On December 17, a blockbuster three-team trade fell through when the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out of a deal with the Yankees and Diamondbacks. Yankees president Randy Levine and Arizona's incoming chief executive officer Jeff Moorad resumed trade talks after Christmas without involving a third party.

A 17-year veteran, Johnson has finished in the top three of the Cy Young voting in nine of the last 12 years.

He is a workhorse, logging at least 240 innings in six of the last seven seasons. Third on the all-time strikeout list with 4161, Johnson has a career record of 246-128 with a 3.07 earned run average. He shared Most Valuable Player honors with Curt Schilling in the 2001 World Series, when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees in seven games.

well with a payroll at just about 200 million bucks.......if they can't take it all.....someone better stary fireing a LOT of people.

its sad... they can't win with almost $200mil... what makes them think they can win with over $200mil... look at some of the players in the league now making HUGE money.... its rediculous.

compare their record and payroll to the Pirates, the smallest payroll in the league (roughly $30mil a year, and $10mil was Jason Kendall alone)

its stupid the levels it has come to.

I absolutely agree.....its so crazy....and so much to the point that tickets to a game are getting out of reach for some fans....its one thing for me to buy ONE ticket and go to a game...but I remember when I was a kid it was a FAMILY thing.....it would run me OVER $200 to see a single regular season game...that is just four tickets and the stuff to go along with getting there and watching the game......sorry folks.....but I don't like ANY team enough to spend that kind of green to watch a single game. And I feel sorry for so many kids that will never experience the feel of a major league game in person for the same reason.

Money can buy you all the talent in the league, but if you can't perform as a team, then you'll never amount to anything. It's been proven time and time again that smaller market teams are just as good as the larger market teams. $$$$$ means pretty much squat any more....especially where the Evil Empire is concerned.

You know the old saying....."you can lead a horse to water........."

Screw the yankees! They have all this money and they cant even win! They blow. They have to go after the 2001 World Champs<---My dbacks (Johnson, Womack) and guess what they still cant win! They arent even going to go to the ws this year. Dbacks and Redsox
