Minor MZ3 problems

Well everything has been good so far but I have just ran into a minor problem with my MZ3.

The other day I left my gas cap at the gas station and I noticed that my check engine light is on. I got the cap back but the check engine light is still staying on. Another thing is that the airbag light is now on and won't go away.

I'm thinking that they are both linked together and the ECU or something needs to be reset. It seems odd that the one came on right after the other.

Anyone had this problem yet?

you can disconnect and reconnect your battery negative terminal, and the engine light should go away, I think it is due to the lack of pressure in the gas tank that's why the engine light come on.

Harrison is correct about the CEL. However the Airbag light is a whole different issue. I took mine in for the same thing on Tuesday and they had to order a new air bag sensor (don't know which one).

If this happens enough times, it will end up being a safety recall.
Airbag light on=Airbags not working

It takes a while for the CEL to clear itself, even though you put the cap back on. After a few hundred or so it should go away. Or just clearing the ECU would work. :)

The airbag light went off and then reappeared so it probally is the sensor like you said. I had a hunch that is what it was but figured that i would ask for other opinions. I guess while I am at the dealer getting this sensor fixed they can give me the free oil change and full tank of gas that they owe me.

The gas really pissed me off when I bought the car. The day that I was driving the car home I got about 10 miles away and realized that the tank was on "E". I'm like what the **** is this s***. I called back the dealer and they said that the detailer must have filled up the wrong black madza. They said the next time I came down that they would fill it up for me.

Thanks for the input.

i experienced the same thing (engine light on) last friday. i brought it to the Mazda service and they replaced my gas cap. and today my engine light is ON again. i'll bring it back on monday and i'll let you know what they'll gonna say 'coz this is the 2nd time....(screwy)

aww man after reading a few mz3 problems, im beginning to think m3 is total crap... what was mazda thinking!??! i guess the last best strong car they made was m6 pr p5.. im so disappointed with m3 now..

that light thing should never have happened.. especilly in a new car.. your car should not have ANY problems unless its a year old!

Keep dreaming, man! Just because a few people on this message board had some minor issues is no reason to decide the car is crap.

Every car line is always going to have problems. It's the severity of them and how the manufacturer and dealer handle those problems that determine how good the car really is.

Personally, my issues were VERY minor and were repaired in a timely and efficient manner. I've rectified some of the design issues myself and the car has performed flawlessly for 2,500 miles.

I have no complaints and would definitely buy the same car again.

I think u have to turn the gas cap and hear at least 3 clicks sound, then the engine light will be off

no, man. Minor problems r always in first yr release car. That's why I got my P5 in 2003:D

The Mazda3 is not crap because of a few small issues.
its a first model year car , so it'll take some time to iron out the bugs. Its not like the Protege doesnt have its fair share of problems..

Man Togan, how can you say the MZ3 is crap compared to the P5 over those issues? Think about all the TSB s*** we've had to deal with on the P5 and that problem even existed for second year production P5's. The MZ3 is still a first year production car and the worst thing I've heard so far is the grooved rotors and the air bag sensor.

That's bs. I've only been on this board for a month and I've read plenty of posts about people bitching about P5s. (screwy)

just to update you guys, my car is still at the dealer, though they gave a protege for a loaner. they called me today to tell me that the part they ordered will arrive on the 19th.. (it's like there's something wrong with the tire coating?!?) i dunno man...

Gas cap?!

My question is how did you leave your gas cap at the gas station? (huh) Mine is connected by a plastic, zig-zaggy, flexible 'thing', so it dangles down a little bit while I'm filling her up. I make sure to place it gently against the body of the car, since I don't want to cause a ding from the gas cap. (spin)

The little zig-zaggy thing will actually stretch long enough to hang the cap off a hook on the fuel door. Voila! No dings!

well i ripped it off because i didn't want any dings or scratches from it. Didn't think about the stretching method.

I got the car back after five days and the crash sensor was bad along with a pump in the evac system. So the gas cap was not the problem, but it happened for me at the right time or I would have been driving around with a bad pump.

Also got a free oil change and free car wash.
