Miata getting the 2.3 turbo next year.

I'd love to see this engine in the Miata. They could re-tune it, flaten out that torque curve and give it more high revving power I suppose. The thought of it makes actually think about saying goodbye to to my S2000. This miata will be a Solstice GXP and Sky Redline killer. However, it's also gonna be an RX8, Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 killer as well. It's gonna be the mac daddy if they do it. I'd say IT'S about time. SPORTS cars are supposed to be faster then economy sedans and hatchbacks, and you never see that anymore, so I hope Mazda gets this right, and this baby runs rings around the rest of the Speed lineup. We'll see!!!!!

i have no problem seeing a Mazdaspeed MX-5 blowing past me. as a salesperson i cant wait for it to get here. 300 hp would be great, but the 250-260 range would be just fine. the mx-5 already is the choice in performance when compared to a regular solstice and sky.

First of all I thought there was a Miata Speed that already came out. But the pic of the white Toyota, is awesome(wow). It says it taking the place of the supra

rx-8's are going hydrogen which apparantly burns hydrogen fuel more efficiently than piston engine...this miata is gona be sick btw

yes there was a mazdaspeed miata a couple years ago. it was a turbo 1.8 in the last body style. it had about 175hp. the mazdaspeed mx-5 will be current body style, with a 2.3 turbo.

No kidding..I was waiting for that 3 years ago.

i wouldn't hold your breath. from everything i have read, mazda is more interested in increasing fuel efficiency, power, and reliability. they have a new rotary in the works. but im sure most of you know that.

I didnt know that..You have any links of the new motor?A new 3 rotor would be nice for that extra torque it needed.

i read that in a mazda magazine we get at the dealership a while back. but the new rotary should be out 2010 or 11. no word on what's different, just they are working on one. i have said for a while they need to do a renesis version of the 20b 3 rotor.

Ok, time for some rumor control...... I work for Mazda and heres the scoop when i asked the Corporate rep.

The miata is not going to get the speed motor, it would throw off the weight distribution of the car, the design concept for the miata is not to just go fast but for it to be responsive and a very tight ride. The added weight would make it drive too much like an old Z3 or S2000. In Europe there has been a miata "icon" released that might make its way over to the U.S. but dont look for anything soon except the very un-manly powder blue special edition hardtop in late 08.

There has been talk and rumor of 2 different things going to happen to the rx-8..... one is the idea of a mazdaspeed rx-8 but they cannot safely turbocharge the renesis rotary because its just too damn small and tempermental so they have thought of using the mazdaspeed engine in that, however it would go against the whole rotary-enthusiast nitch. Another reason they are thinking of that is because Mazdas Patent on the rotary will be ending soon and they dont know if theyre going to re-new it.

Second thing for the rx-8 and what im told is a more feasable option.... Toyota and Lexus will be bringing the Supra back in either 09 or 10 so in response Mazda will do away with both the renesis and the RX-8 and go back to a re-vamped RX-7 body style and a redesigned rotary that is larger and produces more raw HP and Torque but can also be turbocharged (much like the old twin-sequential that was is the 93-95 3rd gen RX-7)

The picture i saw.... is actually just a prototype toyota has made for a hybrid based supercar. Chevy has done the same and they named it the Volt. Its just the age old concept-then rumor routine used to stimulate the industry and bring attention to themselves. The next generation 3 (about darn time too they havent changed since 04) will have an rx-8 inspired front end and grill look. While the next gen mazda 6 will be more of a larger luxary sedan and will take on a look almost like an Acura. I have no idea about the whole ford engine being used in it because Mazda is doing away with Fords help within the next few years and will stop having the b-series truck and the tributes because they are just ford Rangers and escapes with different badging. Towards mid 08 the tribute will be a hybrid vehicle (i dont know why so late, a hybrid escape has been available for some time now) but i havent heard anything else.

I have seen much research with regard to the Quasi-Turbine, a strange yet very capable rotary-like setup. This might be the future of rotaries, yet.

That dosent mean they wont put in a DISI turbocharged version of the 2.0l that is currently in there now. They should be able to make plenty of power with that as wellas keep the 50-50 weight distrobution. If you look at the speed 3 and the regular 3 its only a couple hundred pounds heavier so I think they will find a way to make that work as well.

100 pounds of bricks in the trunk?

i also work for mazda and have come to realize that corporate answers are not always correct. our corporate rep asks me whats going on.
