Merry Christmas to me...

Took Black Cherry to Hancock Mazda yesterday for an irritating rattle near the rear window that I've been trying to locate and fix on my own for months. Got the car back today, and on the way home I hit a tire on the highway. Couldn't be avoided. I was about 2 car lengths behind a Tahoe going around 60mph and he just straddled it. I couldn't change lanes and I'm sort of glad I didn't have time to hit the brakes as this might have actually been worse if the nose had lowered during braking.
I have an appointment with an insurance adjuster monday morning. Merry f'king Christmas to me with a $300 deductible.

Ouch. Is just the lip damaged? Or does the bumper share that battle scar?

While it sucks to have damage in the end it should have been avoidable... At 60mph 2 car lenghts is not sufficient spacing to avoid a accident..... Just keep in mind its repairable and your ok....

sorry to hear man!

Thanks for the kind replies everyone. Got an adjuster to look at it this morning. $973.98. The lower 'splitter' is completely shattered. I had to wire it up to the bottom of the bumper cover to keep it from flapping in the wind and doing further damage (or just flying off). I just LOVE the white trash look.

The bumper has one vertical crack below the honeycomb, and 2-3 lower splitter mounts were ripped completely out, so they opted for a new bumper cover. To my amazement, the tray under the engine was untouched. I figured it would have been shattered as well. It's pretty tough.

My body guy is taking it in the 20th and will have it done by the time I get back from Florida for Christmas, so I don't have to mess with a rental car. He's done some incredible work for me in the past, whereas the big body shop conglomerates like Collision Masters, etc. have done some pretty sub-par work for me, so I really enjoyed having found him. Good, honest body guys are hard to come by. I feel good that my car will be in caring hands while I'm out of town.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Just happened to me...

I smacked a tire on the driver's side on the expressway last night. The car in front of me was changing lanes as I came up on him, and there was a tire in the lane. I managed not to take it head on, but still got a lot of broken plastics. My front end has the same toothy grin as yours. (pow)

The bumper was dented in, but I managed to pull that back out (luckily plastic pops right back). There's a small crack on the underside of the bumper, but nothing serious enough to make me fork over $450 for a new cover though. Luckily all the would-be paint damage was on the clear-bra, so it can be buffed out. I think the bra also helped reinforce the cover and kept it from cracking more, since the only small crack starts below the bra and only shows from the underside.

I spec'd out the parts online and came out with $240 worth of damaged parts, including the air guide, spoiler, right bracket, lower bracket, and plastic in the right wheel housing (and replacement clips/screws, etc.) :'(

I guess I better go find the how-to for getting the bumper off now...
