Mechanical or Electrical Oil Pressure gauge?

Well debating between the autometer 3327(electrical) and the 3321(mechanical) oil pressure gauges....I kind of have a fear of running oil into my car so I'm swinging towards the electrical, but the electrical isnt a full sweep and wont be as accurate(for me to read that is) as the mechanical which is a full sweep...What is every running?

Electrical is the only way to go. Mechanical pressure gauges (oil and fuel) should "never" be installed inside the car.

electrical....

there have been a couple of members on this board that learned the hard way...

SenorCorwin...big enough SIG? :)

not necessarily. oil may be safely mounted in cabin. fuel and brake pressure are the big HELL NOs! for mech oil in cabin, you need COPPER tubing.

I have a CF series full sweep mech oil pressure. i hate the elec half sweep.

what do you mean by full sweep??? (uhm)

i have an electronc oil pressure gauge.. works great, just a small wire through the fire wall. Very responsive too. :)

Full sweep is the range at which the gauge operates. The electric gauges only sweep about 120 whereas the mechanical gauges sweep about 270.

I am one that normally gets hung upon on "looks" or making things match, so I understand the sweeps if the other gauges are similar, but if you are buying it for the additional "resolution". . .how accurate does your oil pressure need to be. You will see that it varies greatly in this car. Once hot, the oil pressure drops way low. . . does it matter if you can tel to a couple psi, versus one psi? No. . .otherwise, get the Greddy. . .that electrical gauge has a 270 degree sweep!
