Mazdaspeed's perimeter alarm

Well, for those of you who haven't gotten your MSP's yet, be sure that you check that the factory perimeter alarm comes standard b/c mine didn't come with a perimeter alarm. I know this b/c I just got an Alpine Dual Zone alarm and the guys that installed it said that the factory alarm was crap and that it wasn't even perimeter. When I asked my dealer at the time I picked up the car, they said that it was perimeter. They were full of crap! I just wanted to let everyone know so that they don't get screwed like I did!

the factory alarm on my ES sucks biig balls. my back window was smashed and broken, and the the alarm never even went off...

id bet the same alarm is in the MSP.
im totally buying a better one

mine came with the perimeter alarm and goes off all the time, way to sensitive and no adjustability, getting Kings gun alarm installed on wednesday!!!!

I will agree that the perimiter alarm is very very sensitive. But I would rather have 100 false alarms than no alarms at all if the car is being messed around with.

there is sensitive and there is overly sensitive and then there is Mazda sensitive.

Parking in my driveway this thing goes off if I look out the window at it...

Can't wait to get the new one installed....

okay...I am wondering if the alarm you got on your MSP is the same factory alarm that mazda put on the P-5.....if so....there is an adjustment for the sensitivity....

when I first got my car you could sneeze next to it and the damn thing would go off....if I was parked on the street, if ANY car or truck went by with any kind of exhaust other than stock it would set off the alarm.....

then I learned that you CAN adjust the sensitivity of the alarm....if you look under the dash on the drivers side....there is a small box about the size of a zippo lighter....and there is a small white or gray knob sticking out of it....you turn the knob counterclockwise to DECREASE the sensitivity....

these alarms were/are made by CODE ALERT. there is a Code Alert sticker right on that little box.

My ES came with just keyless entry. The perimeter alarm was optional and is manufactured by CODE ALARM, just like Nuke said. Since keyless entry is practically half of the alarm system, I just purchased a Hornet 700T add-on alarm system. It was well under $100 bucks and I can still use my factory remotes. It also has more advanced options like starter kill, remote start, etc.

My msp came with a standard remote entry fob and an alarm that honked the horn and flashed the lights if a door or hood is opened. I went through the manual and checked with the mechanic and there was no perimeter alarm. I have since had it replaced.:)

well I guess since you already had it replaced....its a moot point...but you DID have a perimeter alarm....but what probably had happened was the sensitivity had been turned down all the way and the shock sensor wouldn't set it off.....I have seen this quite often too. the "boxes" were set somewhat randomly...some high...some low...but it was always one of the extreams....

The alarm that comes from the dealer is an option, and it does tie into the fractory keyless entry.....and it has not only sensors for the doors/hatch...but also for shock/vibration. The alarm system is made by CODE ALERT.

did the guys leave the old system wired into your car? or did they remove it? if they removed it...did they give it to you? if its still in there....just for s**** and giggles...look under the dash for that little zippo lighter sized box I mentioned...its above the and to the drivers side of the stearing column and you will find a little knob on one corner of it....that is the sensitivity adjustment for the shock/vibration sensor....

MY DEALER didn't know s*** about it either.....it was people on this board that taught me about how it worked and how to adjust it.

and there was a reason that your dealers mechanic couldn't find anything in the book about it....because there is nothing in the manual about it. Believe me....many if not most of the mechanics at the dealers don't know jack about our cars....that is a proven fact.

HOWEVER, you may have found a small leaflett in with your manual from code alert....not everyone got one.....I happened to...it even tells you what the codes are when you come back to find that the car has been disturbed...and the horn will honk a few times when you turn the alarm off....the number of times it honks tells you why the alarm went off. Also....with the factory/dealer installed alarm.....you may have noticed that when you hit LOCK once the lights falsh adn the doors lock, and the alarm arms......and if you push LOCK again, within 5 seconds the lights flash again and the horn honks ONCE.....this is a confirmation that the doors are in fact locked and the alarm did set....if the horn doesn't honk...something is worng and it didn't arm.....TYPICALLY what people will find was they were just in side the back of the car and the hatch is not 100% shut....but if ANY door is not 100% shut the alarm will not arm and the horn will not honk the second time you push the LOCK button on the fob.

Did anybody else notice the strange spot that the factory keyless entry module is located? If you have a sedan, it is under the rear deck plastic piece. When I was changing my speakers a while back, I noticed it there. It is a little box that says Naldec on it.

I wonder where Mazda put this keyless entry module in the P5?

Sir N. ... I think this is another place where Mazda's differ north and south of the border. Either that or dealership to dealership.
The mechanic didn't look at the manual ... I did .... it sitting here next to me .... "Security System Owner's Manual ... Mazda".
The first line is "Thank you for purchasing the Mazda Security Upgrade package".
The manual is a total of 5 pages .... there is no shock sensor, no sensitivity swiitch (I looked). It was a black box about 4" x 6" with a few wires ... they gave it to me but I didn't really look at it .... I'll look tonight.

I'll agree with dpmmsp on this one, at least as far as the size of the box. My roommate has an '02 ES and he hates the alarm because it's way too sensitive. I told him about this thread and we checked it out last night. What we found was a box, about 4' x 6; with fuses and wires running out of it. One of the harnesses is marked 'Shock'. There is no knob for adjusting the sensitivity. Although I'm wondering what would happen if this portion of the alarm was unplugged. Would the alarm still function as far as sensing opened doors, attempted start, etc?

So what's the "upgrade"?

ahhh YES...I failed to notice earlier that you are from UP NORTH...and very well things are different between the two. and when you refered to "THE MANUAL" i figured you were talking about the actual cars manual...NOT the alarms few page manual that they put in with the rest of the papers they give you....

SO....evidently yours is different.

JROOF.....could your friend see if the box had a sticker on it telling him what brand it was? I find it odd that his ES is the same year model as mine...and we are both in the states and that they are different.....hmmmmmm very interesting. This is the first I have heard of anyones factory alarm being different.......it doesn't surprise me that the canadian and US versions are different...but it does surprise me that his and mine are different. Have him check it out.....and look very closely at the box if it is in fact a CODE ALERT brand...and the KNOB I spoke of is very small and easily overlooked...I know I didn't even notice mine the first time I looked at it....untill someone told me it was there and to go back and LOOK for it.....it was near one of the corners of the box.

Nuke...
we didn't look all that long, but I didn't notice CODE ALERT specifically on the sticker. The sticker that was there had a couple of double digit codes and their corresponding meanings. The box itself was black. The shock portion of the alarm was in the upper right corner and the harness entered right there. There was no knob in that corner. I only looked for a mintue as he had to leave but we'll give it a closer look tonight. Thanks.

Still doesn't explain why Digi's had the permiter and dpmmsp's doesn't. Their both in Canada....what's going on here? Is some of us getting screwed, and some not?

When the shop ionstalled my new alarm they showed me the Mazda stock alarm box. It is a 4x6 black box with a sticker on it that says Mazda Security System or some bulls**t like that. There was no knob to adjust sensitivity and the guys at the shop examined the alarm and confirmed that it WASN'T a perimeter. I called my dealer to ask if he knew anything about this. He "says" that he'll look into it but I doubt it!
