Mazdaspeed vs racing beat sound and size

couple of questions, what is the sound difference between the racing beat catback and the mazdaspeed axleback?

also, out of curiosity, what is the pipe size of the mazdaspeed axleback?

The Mazdaspeed axle back has a droning sound at 3500 rpm and above. I had one for awhile and hated it.Too loud. The Racing Beat muffler is much quieter. Great sound to it. Not sure how the whole cat-back system sounds, though. Hope this helps.

The Racing Beat cat-back sounds phenominal. also, you'll get 2.375" tubing all the way back. not sure, but i believe the MS axle back is stock size.

the racing beat catback has a slight drone above 85. and even then, if you have an intake, you will hear the intake over the exhaust. it's REALLY nice. everyone who has heard it loves it. it's deep, mellow, and VERY throaty. i love mine!

Yeah, what he said. Now I just hope it isn't too cold tomorrow so I can install my intake (if work is slow....)

anyone have a Racing Beat exhaust and a header? now that my header is on my car is too loud for my tastes. im thinking of getting a racing beat cat back but wanted to see if that would still be real loud.

yeah what he said..

I also had to sell my MSP axleback for my P5 because of the sound, especially the drooning that previous posters have mentioned....I liked how it looked and performed on the car though. Actually, now that I think about it, the muffler get's too annoying for my tastes when the engine it stressed or at crusing speeds.

This doesn't mean that you might dig it though! (drinks)

I have a Mazdaspeed axle-back on right now, but I just ordered an AWR header and Racing Beat Cat-back. I KNOW the Mazdaspeed would be just too damn loud with the header on there (it's almost too loud for me as is). I'll let you know how the AWR/RB combo works out...

That is the exact set up that I am intersted in getting. I wanted to get the JIC cat back with AWR headers, but I was told this combination would be too Loud. So i was going with the Racing Beat cat back exhaust system due to that the mellow sound. Did you finally put your Racing beat exhaust and AWR headers? How is the Sound? Is it Very Loud? \\

STILL waiting for the RB Cat-back (been over a month) and I changed my mind on the AWR... gonna get one from Wagner.

Dude who did you order it from...I wouldn't wait a month...cancel your order and talk to Matt a racingextreme.com. He totally hooked me up!

why are you guys saying that a cat back will sound quieter than an axleback??? Id think it would be just the opposite.

FoxPro5: how much did you get the RB Cat back for from this Matt guy??

Alot depends on the muffler and resonator design. Are they straight through? Baffled? Packing material (if any)? Everything I've heard is that the Mazdaspeed axle-back IS cosiderably louder than the RacingBeat cat-back. Check in the P5 forum--there is a thread "RB vs. MSPD". Hope this helps.

I'm looking to get the MP3 Axle-back and I have a bosal 2.4" exhaust system (cat-back as well as a matching test pipe for rear cat). Any thoughts?

Not sure of the I.D. of the MP3 axle-back. If this was the piece made by Racing Beat, it may be 2.375" O.D., so with the Bosal being 2.4" (I.D. or O.D.?), there may be a slight bottleneck where the axle-back bolts up. Don't know for sure if it is enough to be a problem (ie: power loss). Sorry this isn't a definate answer.........

No I understand all that jargon.. I guess I should have been more situation specific. I meant how is it that an axle back and a cat back made by the same company, for the same car that SHOULD have relatively the same diameter piping(inside and out) and the, what i thought to be, same muffler be louder than the longer more opened up cat back???

apparently something is different then?

I guess it could be that since the axle-back has smaller diameter tubing IN FRONT OF IT, the exhaust gasses are traveling at a higher rate of speed therefore interacting with the baffles/perforations inside the muffler differently. Sounds good anyway..........
EDIT: Could also have to do with the factory vs. aftermarket resonator.
