Mazdaspeed owners got it easy, I feel for our Rx8 siblings

I would assume about 275-285hp. This would justify the claimed hp rating of 250 from mazda ssuming a 15% drivetrain loss.

Car manufacturers do NOT claim whp. Those numbers are straight from the engine while its out of the car.

While it would be GREAT to see a Renises putting down 275 ponies, its only doing 250 at best on a cool day with no humidity.

It's NA dude! But that RX8 shore does look cool  .

:D

i know it's NA,.....i didn't say it wasn't. Just mentioned that the TT RX-7 ws only slightly faster.

i also heard that there is a huge risk with the rotary engines buring out at around 50k, as with the rx-7 but i am sure mazda claims this to have been fixed for the rx-8

i dunno if the reliablity of the rotary has been enhanced but i know the major difference is in the relocation of the exhaust ports.....besides that i have no idea how the renisis does compared to the old 13b, etc.......but at least mazda got the stylin down :)

TMP, a few months back Sport Compact Car did some of testing on the RX-8.

They did find that dyno testing the RX-8 is problematic because of its sophisticated electronics.

They also found that on the track, Mazda's original HP claims didn't bear out. If you know how much a car weighs and how fast it accelerates, you can calculate horsepower. They found that even the lower revised numbers were a little optimistic.

Second, nearly half of the users are reporting bad gas mileage (like 12-16 MPG).

...

When buying a sport car, one shouldn't be concerned with gas mileage.

The complaint is that it's actually a lot lower than the sticker numbers, it seems.

they just wear out like any other spring loaded device.....the benefits outway the downside!!

I am just joking, the RX-7 is still my favorite car, then the Miata ,then the MSP. It all works out that they fit into the same Mazda family, eh?

I'm so excited about my new FD. This thing is gong to haul ass. It won't b like any other car I've owned. This one will go fast AND look good. There is something to be said for the subtle styling cues in the 1976 Ford Pinto though. Most people just overlook them in a 11s quartermile car!
