mazdaspeed CAI

I called the dealership to set up an appointment to have them install their cold air intake and the parts salesman told me they have been recalled or somethin like that.

Is this true?

Anyone know why it had to be recalled?

He said it had somethin to do with quality control I believe. Are the intakes that are already installed also this way?

I just took mine in for the 15000 mile check up and they asked me how it has been running. I haven't had any problems with my MS CAI

there's been a few threads on this ... I'm glad I got my COBB SRI... I live in MA and laugh at the flash flood warnings... not too long ago this summer we drove through a foot+ of water... thankfully we weren't in my car but we could have! maybe they're concerned about that?

Yes, the Mazdaspeed CAI has been discontinue till further notice.
In certain states with colder weather it has been through off some lean codes and in certain circumstances a couple car have been victims of hydrolock. That's why Mazda took it off the market earlier this year, I think it was around April. Every dealership was told not to sale anymore and if any of the Mazdaspeed CAI are installed after April 1, 2008 that it will not be covered under warrenty if it hydrolocks. (I think it was 04.01.08, not sure though)

Oh btw, I've had mine for more than 20,000 miles and it's been treating me well :) no problems

Dates below are correct. Not sure if the hydro-lock point is true, but I can see it. Dealers meant well, but still folks will drive through 12" of water and try to pass the buck.

IMO, they may have been getting folks with lean codes. depends on how it's designed. I installed and AEM CAI and she's been fine. No issues.

Good Day
MS CAI
17K miles working fine in 5 degrees 14" of snow/ 12" rain in 2 days
The bulletin my sales man read said a Vin range of #''s where inclined to throw a cel, my vehicle was not in that group. If unit can’t work for all, we will discontinue till it will work with all or not.
Sounded real, you never know?

hrmm... I forget which long term test it was I think car and driver but they had mazda insall all the mazdaspeed aftermarket components on the car ... i wonder if THEY got the CAI.

Oh holy s*** pdqgp. I can't be seein signatures like that while I'm at work. I about fell out of my chair.

Anyhow, thought I heard they were gettin ready to re release it soon. Just hearsay of course.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_4025443", true); </SCRIPT>

the MS CAI was made by AEM, just get the AEM CAI if you want one and put the mazdaspeed sticker on it thats the only diff

Lol, I don't hear about hydrolock enough... Must be the most common thing with intakes? Good thing I never got it when I use to go muddin with my truck and would have water and mud all in my engine bay. IMAO you would have to have the CAI submerged in water to get it. Haven't gotten it with all the rain down here in florida
